Again, the formula is to add up the positives, (points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals) and subtract the negatives, (missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and fouls). The result is "net points". Then you can convert that to per 40 minutes. Everybody got plenty of playing time on this tour so the numbers should be interesting.

COLEMAN
90m 43p 19r 0a 4b 1s 15/24fg 13/22ft 8to 11pf = 67 positives-37 negatives = 30NP, 13.3 per 40m

CHRISTMAS
89m 22p 30r 5a 10b 6s 9/18fg 4/6ft 5to 7pf = 73-23 = 50NP, 22.5 per 40m

KEITA
71m 12p 29r 2a 5b 2s 2s 5to 4/9fg 4/11ft 5to 12pf = 50-29 = 21NP, 11.8 per 40m

GRANT
103m 53p 31r 6a 3b 6s 17/35fg 18/29ft 1to 6pf = 99-36 = 63NP, 24.5 per 40m

FAIR
42m 24p 9r 1a 0b 1s 11/23fg 0/0 ft 0to 2pf = 35-14 = 21NP, 20.0 per 40m

JOHNSON
72m 37p 19r 1a 2b 4s 14/28fg 5/6ft 9to 3pf= 63-27 = 36NP, 20.0 per 40m

GBINIJE
87m 14p 18r 6a 2b 7s 5/16fg 3/5ft 2to 6pf = 47-21 = 26NP, 12.0 per 40m

ENNIS
109m 40p 11r 12a 3b 8s 14/35fg 10/11ft 5to 7pf = 74-34 = 40NP, 14.7 per 40M

COONEY
91m 39p 7r 4a 0b 5s 15/41fg 2/4ft 1to 1pf = 55-30= 25NP, 11.0 per 40m

PATTERSON
70m 15p 7r 8a 1b 2s 7/27fg 0/0fg 8to 2pf = 33-10 = 23NP, 13.1 per 40m

Generally speaking, a player averaging 10NP per 40 minutes is playing well enough to be a starter on most teams and 20NP per 40 is an All-American caliber player. Players close to the basket have a better chance to accumulate net points than those father away, (both vertically and horizontally). Obviously there are things not measured in the stats that impact the outcome of games but the most statistically productive players will usually be the best at those hidden skills, as well.

Christmas had a really good week, especially on the boards. Coleman had a monster game against Ottawa. Keita didn't have great numbers over all but was key to the comeback against Carleton. Fair didn't need to prove anything and needed to rest that leg. Grant played like an All-American. Johnson seemed to be struggling much of the time but he's so talented he put up big numbers anyway. Gbinije had trouble shooting but contributed in other ways. Ennis also didn't have a great week shooting but ran the show very well and came up huge when we needed him to score vs. Carleton. He got to the line and was almost automatic from there. Cooney had good and bad moments. he still needs to shot better, (7 for 21 from three). Patterson was awful on offense until the last last game. He looks great on defense and is a good passer.

They still need a lot of work but this was a great head start and there's plenty of practice coming up to work on the rough edges.

I couldn't watch the games but it looks to me like BJ had 37 points in 72 minutes and shot 50% from the field. Which lead people to think we should red shirt him when Cooney who apparently was awesome only had 39 points in 91 minutes on 15/41 shooting. Gbinije only had 14 points in 87 minutes as a 2 guard. I'm not saying the kid isn't a good defender and won't be good so someone set me straight. Why are we redshirting BJ again? You are not permitted to use the word Forward in your response or make reference to him being stuck behind CJ and Grant which is not the case.

Lest I get the label of being a Cooney basher...

Cooney had the lowest net points of all of our players, while also attempting the most field goals. That's what the numbers say.

Small sample size, exhibitions don't mean much, but he played well vs Georgetown, yadda yadda yadda...

End of the day, it is what it is, hold the mayo, but I think he shot the ball too much this trip and if he continues to take that volume of shots during the season (he won't, CJ will absorb some, and I think Gbinije will take more shots once the real games begin) we're going to compound the limitations we have on offense by handing an inefficient player an undue amount of shot opportunities.

BJ is soooooo talented that he did struggle, he will get better and better. The big thing with BJ is that he knows how good he is at shooting. No hesitation if he is left open and he shoots with confidence. Starting out the game 0-4 has no effect on him but for Cooney you can see it does. I was surprised how many netpoints BJ had but Iknew they would be pretty good. Remember he had some freshman nerves in these games as well. Mostly they represented in him misshandling balls our just getting out of sinc. He could have had more points and will as he gets comfortable. He won't nor should he redshirt. If Cooneynever gets comfotable with his shot BJ will get more and more minutes but I think even if Cooney does shoot well BJ will get minutes.
