@SamBlum3: Syracuse announces that it’s named Rhonda McFarland as AAD of Finance. Worked at Boise State with AD Mark Coyle.

--------

There is another hire announcement on the horizon. A pretty significant one IMO and a great choice.

Good hire. Her background is excellent .. well-educated and experienced. So far so good for Mr. Coyle.

My friend at Seton Hall has glowing praise for the new Deputy AD. She brings a strong legal, compliance, and track & field background to the table, and is an absolute gem of a person from what I've been told.

Both seem like great choices. Well done Mr Coyle!

Whom are these people replacing?

My concern about Gross's hiring wasn't so much about the quality (though he harbored some dolts), but the quantity: how many deputy athletic directors do we need? It seemed that he used the department as a workfare program for friends.

So these people might be great, but I'm cynical. Especially when "senior woman administrator" is one of the titles created here.

Took that as overseeing woman's athletic teams..

That's a possibility I considered, though it'd seem an odd staffing decision, too - why break up the two genders within an otherwise unified department?

As is often the case, I assume the title has something to do with compensation. Doesn't sound great, though.

He is probably cleaning house and hiring his own folks. And she is the Deputy AD who happens to be the Senior Woman Administrator.

Exactly - the "woman" and "senior" are self-evident in her, well, femininity and senior position, so it's a silly title.

This actually provides some good context: http://www.syracuse.com/orangesport...hires_at_syracuse_univers.html#incart_m-rpt-1

So these two replace Baumgartner and Terry Donovan. I might be mistaken, but didn't Baumgartner and Donovan replace no one? It'll be interesting to see if Coyle's department shrinks from the bloated bureaucracy that Gross built.

Senior Women's Sports Admin is a pretty common position.

Does "Senior" modify "Woman" or "Administrator"? I'm not sure we have enough seasoned citizens of the female persuasion to warrant an administrative position.

Every D1 school at least has a SWA, at least someone who holds that designation. Donovan replaced no one as his job was one of the ones Rob Edson was covering. Baumgartner replaced Barb Adams Henderson.

Senior Woman Administrator

The Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) is the highest ranking female in each NCAA athletic department or member conference. The designation of SWA is intended to encourage and promote the involvement of female administrators in meaningful ways in the decision-making process in intercollegiate athletics. The designation is intended to enhance representation of female experience and perspective at the institutional, conference and national levels and support women’s interests. Her daily responsibilities can include any department tasks and must include senior management team responsibilities.

Well then, maybe "Senior Administratress" would be clearer. ;)

Kimberly Keenan-Kirkpatrick has a very unfortunate set of initials.

I don't think that is it at all. I believe it means that she is the Senior...as in top..Woman Administrator.

Yeah - could be. As a freelancer I'm pretty far from the corporate world...

He hasn't hired any unqualified wives yet...so you have that.

Yes. And she held the same title at Lafayette College earlier in her career.
