Class of 2017 New Commit: Lucas Quinn (NY:Nisky) Mid

Another 5-spot. If he has a knack for that at the next level, we will have many enjoyable spring weekends watching him in Orange.

Seven Niskayuna boys’ lacrosse players earned league recognition when the Suburban Council released its all-league teams Wednesday.

Joining the first team from Niskayuna were attackman James Sexton, defenseman Jake Shephard, face-off specialist Dylan Pantalone and midfielders Lucas Quinn and Mike Doxie.

Some observers think that the best player in that section is Matt Stucchi, a dynamic middie from Shenendehowa who is going to Loyola, I believe.

Athlete of the Year: Lucas Quinn, Niskayuna

Niskayuna junior Lucas Quinn recalled his mother decorating he and his older brother's room with Syracuse men's lacrosse gear, including posters and pillows, when he was in fifth grade.

A few years later, Quinn made his oral commitment to play for the Orange before the start of his freshman season, his first year on varsity.

"It was really exciting," said Quinn, a midfielder. "I think the coaches are awesome and the history of the program is better than any other one."

Quinn was named a pre-season All-American this year after finishing his sophomore campaign with 44 goals and 35 assists.

He improved those numbers this year in his third season with the Silver Warriors as he finished with 51 goals and 48 assists.

Quinn credited his older brothers, John and Evan, for a considerable amount of his success. John is a former Hartford defender and Evan just finished his junior season as a goalie for Hartford.

"I credit them for a lot of stuff I've learned," Lucas said. "We've been playing lacrosse in the yard together for as along as I can remember."

Quinn played a big role in Niskayuna's run to the 2015 Class A state title. The Silver Warriors are the only lacrosse program from Section II — boys or girls — to claim a state championship.

"That was the best memory of my life for sure," he said.

This season didn't go exactly as planned for Quinn and his Niskayuna teammates as they suffered a stunning loss to rival Shenendehowa in the Section II final last month.

Quinn believes that loss will drive the squad next season.

"I think that's going to be in our minds next year," Quinn said. "I don't think anyone is going to forget the 2016 drought."

He is a very skilled player. Not a dynamic athlete but has great stick skills and can play both offensive positions - will be interesting to see how he is used. The stucchi kid is obviously also good (committed to Loyola) but hard to say he is a better player.

The point that was being made, I believe, is that Stucchi's game might translate better on the next level and that if SU hadn't taken Quinn's commitment so early they might prefer Stucchi at this point...Well, I guess if that were true they could always pull a Gaudet on Quinn. Somebody should ask the kid if the "brain trust" is returning his emails and phone calls.

if your point was to criticize the staff why not just do that? His game may translate better but who knows at this point. They are different classes and its hard to discount recruiting the #3 player in the 17s whose resume is as solid as they get. I have seen both play often and I am happy that we have a commitment from Quinn.

i worry a little about quinn. hasn't grown much taller. thick and powerfully built kid but moderate speed and not very tall 5-9?

Lucas just scored a nice goal for the coastals in the ILCommitted 2017 final live on laxsportsnetwork

Lucas Quinn, M, Niskayuna (N.Y.), Syracuse

A standout in the Coastals’ 8-7 championship loss to the Beasts with two goals and two assists, Quinn showcased good ball movement from the midfield. On an extra-man opportunity, he threw a nice “one more” pass to set up an Owen Seebold goal, and in another instance fed a goal-scorer off the dodge.
