An athlete with lacrosse skills. What's not to like?
This kids sounds like a difference-maker. And I wouldn't mind getting a bite to eat with his dad after his first SU win.Freshman 15: Impact Players Hit Campuses (LaxMag)
Sam Romano, Syracuse M
Romano says he is scared of tornadoes. Is it possible to be frightened of yourself?
Team USA and New York Lizards long-stick midfielder Kyle Hartzell was coaching at Plano West (Texas) last year when he first caught a glimpse of the damage Romano can cause an opponent.
"My first impression was we will see this kid's name a lot when he is in college," Hartzell said.
The scouting report: Athletic dodging, ability to draw and handle early slides from long- and short-sticks while offering an accurate, high-velocity shot from distance. And he gets back on defense. "The total package," Episcopal Dallas coach Pat Kennedy said. Romano set ESD single-season (94) and career points records (263) this spring and led the team to the state semifinals, cementing one of the best Texas high school careers ever.
Romano's father, Phil, the founder of Macaroni Grill restaurants, grew up in central New York. That's where Sam is headed to play at Syracuse. With a big senior class in 2015, the Orange has many holes to fill on offense. Romano prepared before arriving on campus, watching a lot of film from Syracuse games last season. "They take a lot of shots from the crease, high-percentage shots," he said. He's on his way to proving Hartzell right.
I expect he and Trimboli might well get time with the 2nd mids next season, especially if they move Mariano back to attack.Injury.
Ahh, the dreaded LBI or UBI?Injury.
