New DC: Tony White

Great hire. Was getting a little nervous we were struggling to find someone. I like this hire better than Arnett for two reasons.
- recruiting upgrade
- he’s not going anywhere. We all knew Arnett, If he did well here would eventually bolt. White left to be close to his mom. He’ll be here a long time if things work out.
This is like getting Dino instead of Frost

Cmon now, don’t be naive. I’m very happy he’s here and if he does a good enough job to get poached, good for him. It’s delusional to think anyone in that business is going to stay put, though. Maybe he’s taking the opportunity to establish himself on the east coast. Cool. As long as he leaves things better than when he got here.

Why would anyone leave their job in Arizona for a job in Syracuse. We all know that SU, at this point isn’t a jump up the ladder.

He literally came here largely because of his mom. His mom isn’t going anywhere. Explain what’s naive to think he plans to stay for a decent amount of time?

I’m all in on this but am I to understand he doesn’t have DC experience? (Besides the last two months at ASU)

Obviously he has a ton of experience coaching the 3-3-5 is a stud recruiter so I’m not complaining. Was just curious about that.
He was the cornerbacks coach and defensive passing game coordinator for ASU. So I assume he has some experience calling plays, at least on the passing side, rather than nothing.

sweet! Man listen to this interview and read the bio, did I say sweet! Thanks mama!
Tony is very articulate. Great communicator. I expect he will be a head coach someday. One of several on this staff.

Penn state or Pitt or Maryland or Virginia or osu or lots of other places could be seen as better opportunities and entail much more reasonable travel to nyc than Tempe. It’s fantastic he’s here but everything in the business is fluid.

In my opinion our coordinators on each side of the ball went from mediocre to above average with these hires. When you factor in the recruiting advantages with these guys these are home run hires.
I'm not sure we can make those definitive statements yet.

Gilbert's last two stops as an OC did not end well and he faced similar criticism to what we heard last year.

White has never been a DC before so who knows what to expect.

Can it get worse then wards defense of giving up 50+ points regularly, and Lynch’s stagnant “high tempo” offense? They were mediocre and Gilbert did well at Texas if I recall. Heck we all thing Babers is a great coach and look at his record 3/4 years here. You have a point, but I believe these are above average coordinators in the game of college football. Especially regarding recruiting, I just feel like white and Gilbert offer more then lynch and ward did in that respect as well.

Tony White recruiting

Thought this was very interesting. White is credited with landing 4 of ASU's recruits. 2 of them are from areas we recruit - Tampa, FL and Atlanta, Georgia and 1 is from Sean Riley's HS of Narbonne.

DeAngelo Taylor - Tampa, FL (Tampa Catholic)

T Lee - Buford, GA (Buford) - 30 miles Northeast of Atlanta

Macen Williams - Harbor City, CA (Narbonne)

Ed Wood - Oakland, CA (McClymonds)

This is an even bigger recruiting homerun than I first thought if he's already recruiting 2 primary areas we target.

We offered the kid from Buford and he has over 30 P5 offers including Alabama. We also offered the kid from Tampa and he has 20 plus P5 offers. Does TW start getting us in the conversation?

I hope it works out! Just think it's too soon to say they are home runs.

Welcome, Tony

One additional recruiting note. Tony White was currently recruiting for ASU (3) - 2021 kids from Buford, GA. ASU/White offered the 3 kids below and coincidentally all 3 had previously been offered by Syracuse.

High 3-Star Running Back Gabe Ervin 6-0 200 (15 plus P5 offers including Georgia. Syracuse offer)

Athlete Amari Wansley - (10 P5 offers including Syracuse)

Cornerback Malik Williams - (14 P5 offers including Florida, FSU,Texas etc. - Syracuse offer)

exciting times

I'm sure it's in the thread, but where does his Mom live?
