New Mexico State basketball suspends operations

I will never for as long as I live understand that dynamic. "OK we're going to abuse the hell out of you, and once we're done with that we're going to wear the same Greek letters on our shirt and be besties." It's just so weird.
I’ll never understand what the “hazers” get out of it.

In the future, hopefully a 2 piece on the first offense, at the very minimum.

Cements a bond, bond of friendships and commonality. For me at Hamilton college it was a great party connecting experience. No stupid life-threatening stuff, not even close, not even anything politically incorrect. When done right was a great experience on both sides of it.

That said, about the fourth paddle on the backside animal House style, was when I turned around and said, you do it again and you’re going down! We did shots later, laughed about it, and he’s one of my best friends to this day, as are about five other guys from the fraternity.

We did it right, certainly see all too often that that is not always the case, which I always thought was sad.

In my Hell Week olives were involved. I can say no more.

Generations of people survived slavery, does that somehow make it right?
Yeah, that’s a real equivalency. Actually, it’s a moronic one.
I am unaware of anyone who wanted to belong to slavery or who could quit slavery if they wanted.

Generations of people survived lead paint also. But, like hazing, it also has hurt a lot of people and probably isn't a good idea in the year 2023.
Yeah, that’s a real equivalency. The paint was misused. No one was supposed to eat the paint.
Being in a group that uses hazing or admission rituals, is voluntary. If you don’t want to do it, leave.

Sports teams don’t have hazing or admission rituals.

I don’t understand all that weird frat crap, but this thread is about a basketball team.

That’s it bud, keep pretending like your victim blaming take is some sort of justification. Despicable.

Tres homoerotique.

Well they are pack animals

The children who grew up inhaling the fumes of lead paint didn't have a choice in the matter (not sure where the eating came from).

Anyway, the simple point I was making is just because some people got through a bad thing unscathed, doesn't mean it's not dangerous for many others (e.g. hazing, or my analogy with lead paint). We see stories in the news every year about kids who were seriously injured or died during frat hazing.

Anyone we can portal that can cover the three pointer on both end
If there is one thing we know for sure it's they do have some guys who know how to shoot.

Remember when they ruled it wasn’t in the ncaa wheelhouse because ALL students could take those classes?

In fraternities, you have the option of quitting pledging. My class had no de-pledges, and we were very proud of that. The class before had only one guy who made it. My pledging was pretty fun, but we'd heard of other fraternities on campus that did some brutal, disgusting things to their pledges.

In basketball, if your team is hazing you, it is not so clear. Aside from other dynamics, as a scholarship player, the team pays for your whole life. It would be a lot to give up.

I'm guessing the coaches were somehow involved, otherwise it would just be a team matter.

I will concede that initiation and hazing rituals, when done responsibly, can probably increase group cohesiveness. It is a custom of which our modern society can probably let go. Like Aunt Jemima and the sexy M&M, we will be fine without it.

There have been many reports of hazing at the HS and college level for sports teams.
