New OL Coach: Steve Farmer

Wow, if true this will save us from total disaster!

Utah State 2016-18 might be the connection.

Note that he was just an assistant OL coach at Texas Tech. And Tulsa rushed for 3.9 yds/carry last season. Not sure about this.

Edit. Nevermind. He was THE OL coach. Was thinking he was an assistant to the main OL coach or something. Don't like how that is written. Proceed as normal. :)

He was an “assistant coach” as the offensive line coach. Not an assistant OL coach.

Yeah I just realized that and corrected it.

I wasn't sure about Schmidt either and he was here for 2 years

Weird that he left Monroe for Illinois State and then came back to Monroe.

Thought Schmidt did a reasonably good job. Our run blocking improved a lot and we made some improvement in pass blocking . Still made way too many penalties, especially given that it was a veteran line.

But he was from the west coast and his network of contacts was worthless for us recruiting. Never a good fit from that perspective.

Farmer looks like his OLs were really good at pass blocking. Maybe not that good at run blocking. Probably a better fit for where we are headed. I think the teams he has coached have done a lot of run and shoot stuff like we do.

He has no connections to the east coast or Florida, our prime recruiting grounds, but he might help us recruit in Texas, Illinois and maybe Louisiana.

Surprised this happened so fast. It makes me think Syracuse might have asked Mike to leave and started the search process some time ago.

Steve Farmer at Texas Tech

“Over his two seasons, Farmers has mentored one of college football’s top offensive lines as the Red Raiders have allowed only 34 sacks during that span despite attempting 929 passes. Texas Tech has ranked in the top 30 for fewest sacks allowed in both of Farmer’s two seasons as the Red Raiders have been steady in protecting the quarterback even with the high number of pass attempts.”

Definitely seems like a good scheme fit for what Beck wants.
