New Rivalry Jerseys

Maybe my memory is foggy, but when we wore blue vs. Kentucky in 1988, it wasn't the same dark blue we wore vs. Notre Dame 20 years later. Didn't we wear a Carolina sky blue type of jersey vs. Kentucky?

It wasn't dark, it wasn't Carolina blue either. Think of that weird blue the lax team wears - almost a 'Mets' blue, as I recall.

Quite frankly our alternates should be the classic Syracuse Orange tops, with white shorts. We rocked that fantastic look in our NIT game against South Carolina and it was tremendous - still not sure why we eventually changed in the same game.

I was at that game and the second most memorable moment (other than our uniform gaffe) was Dajuan Wagner rolling about 50-100 deep with his posse in the crowd.

It was a darker blue if i remember. Very plain with syracuse in white letters.

Too many people are superstitious on this board. I'm pretty sure if anything, new jerseys would give the team a boost. I'm pretty sure the team just lost because they weren't that good in 08.

That's probably the silliest thing I've ever heard. Hmmm... That thread on orange starbursts looks interesting - gonna go take a peek at that.

If the kids like them then great, doesn't matter what blue hairs and people here do. Looks at the all the different shoes that are out there on the court every game, I tend to believe that many of the Nike shoes, like the ones that Brandon wore the other night versus Providence were designed or made on thier website, my point is, the kids love this type of stuff. Dion's Kobes etc. As I say all the time, This isn't 1978

I just posted in a separate link. I liked them

I have seen the uniforms they wore versus Kentucky as my buddies Dad bought a jersey in some auction, that picture makes them look darker than they actually were, not a big deal eitherway but FWIW

So, just to summarize, we've worn blue jerseys twice.

First, we lost by 4 at Rupp Arena against a Kentucky team that was 20-5 after the game.

Second, we lost by 7 at ND, when ND was 11-3 in conference, and we were 7-8 and headed for the NIT.

And from these 2 results, we're all supposed to assume that the blue jerseys are some sort of harbinger of bad luck and destruction?

Somehow, I'm skeptical.

You are 100% correct sir...they were not as dark as that pic projects, actually, quite a bit lighter from my recollection. I remember watching the game from my college suite wondering what the ?!?! The blue was an odd hue, certainly nothing close to navy, but some type of mix...between like a slate blue and baby blue...the current dark blues I like a lot, just hate the grey in it...actually hate the grey in the orange & white unis as well.

Mehhh kids like both. New and flashy is a good changeup but Mitchell & Ness make a killing selling throwback stuff as well.

Check out this beauty for $285

That kentucky game is 1 of the first syracuse regular season games I remember watching, probably cuz of the blue unis. I had just turned 9. Also remember the game against michigan at the dome with gary grant, think that was '88 as well. Would have bet alot of money that rex chapman was on that kentucky team.

I'd like some jet black unis like Oregon's bowl uniforms with orange trim...thats whats up ;-)
This. It would be pretty sick to go out in all blacks with orange letters/numbers, black socks and black shoes.

I have a pair of SU shorts that are black with orange trim and they look awesome. I'd be down with that, or the blue. I loved the blue unis they wore for the ND game.

Care to share where you got them? I am a big fan of blacking things out.

I guess I'm just curious as to what makes it a 'rivalry' jersey. I assume it will have the phrase "Georgetown sucks" prominently displayed.

'Rivalry' might be a bit of a misnomer here. It's mostly bc I can't say the name of the actual line...even though it would mean nothing to folks here.

Interesting thread.

1)If we brand the team/program as the "Orange", I've never understood why we don't wear Orange at home. Has this ever been asked/addressed?

2)I'm getting old(er).

I recall that 88 game real well because they had great guards. I'm pretty sure Ed Davender was on that team still, he was a teammate of the Pearl at B&G's in HS and Eric Manuel was the other guard (he was part of the reason UK got nailed a few years later). I think LeRon Ellis was on that team, too. It's strange that I do NOT remember the 08 team wearing Blue. That is insane. Maybe I put that team out of my mind.

That was the game where Kyle MCalarney went 9-11 from 3 point range and they made like 14 or 15 three's overall. It was like hitting my thumb with a hammer everytime they made one.
