Let's just hope the buzz lasts, even if they have another 4-8 or 3-9 season. Even Dino admitted it takes time for the kids to get the system. Because we know how supportive the SU fanbase generally is anymore.

I stumbled on these combine numbers from spring. i haven't bothered to check all the players. I think Blacks' times are pretty stellar for his size. His shuttle is particularly impressive and then Coleman's is better. Very impressive for 239#s. I think the numbers are pretty good for both at their weight.

Size-wise, all of our players are pretty much out of position as currently constituted. 6'0'' 215 lbs is a Safety, not an OLB.

I mentioned in a thread on the football board that Shafer (and Marrone, Robinson and probably P at the end) thought Syracuse was a hindrance to their recruiting efforts. And it shows. You can't sell something you don't believe in.
Babers seems to believe in Syracuse as a selling point more than anyone we've had since the good times under P. That on its own makes a difference.

I do find it a littler curious that they view Rashad Smith; 6-1 180, as an OLB.

Syracuse should be in position to compete with any school in the country within the next two years. Exceptions would be the Monster schools but i still think that we can take on most schools and hold our own. On field wins, ACC, IPF, Dome redo campus improvements all add up to being able to hang with most.

I'm incredibly optimistic for the future, but I think you need to recalibrate your expectations a bit. Two years is not a very long time, at least when it comes to going from being 12-14 ranked classes in the ACC to going toe to toe with anyone. That isn't going to happen Baylor - BAYLOR - after nearly a decade of success, is just now able to take on UT/OU/A&M and getting highly sought after recruit. They certainly weren't doing that after two years. Baylor also happened to recruit a future heisman winner in RGIII in year 1, which helped recruiting, and, of course, being in Texas and in close proximity to elite recruits. Syracuse is probably never going to go toe to toe with any school in the country - at least so long as Syracuse is located in upstate NY - but that's ok. We don't need to in order to have success.
Starting to win will take care of recruiting, we have our yearly schedule to sell to recruits. We have the tough division with Florida St, Clemson, and Louisville all possible top 15 programs, and you can sell that to recruits, to be here and beat them.

An important thing to remember about this hire as opposed to others is where each came from immediately before SU.
Robinson came from Texas/NFL, Shafer from Michigan/Stanford, Marrone from the NFL. All three had been at levels that were higher than SU right before getting there.
Babers is coming from Eastern Illinois & Bowling Green, and had to sell those two schools to recruits. In every facet, Syracuse should blow those two schools out of the water. No offense to either school, of course.
The other thing - and not necessarily less important than my prior point - is that our facilities are now comparable to our peers. Not 100% comparable, but close enough where it's not used against us. When P/Robinson/Marrone/Shafer took over, we did not have an IPF and did not make the necessary investments into the program.
The thing that this coach can sell vs the last three coaches is that he has a track record of success as a head coach. You see a guy who has proven that he can win so when he says we are going to win a recruit or parent or high school coach can look and say he has already proved that.
Now you add the facilities, the schools tradition, and his scheme and the schools new committment to the program and you have a solid foundation to present to a recruit.
Then you add that a coach that seems to have a complete plan and vision of success for the future and mostly assistant coaches that have stayed with him for a long stretch who also have bought into his vision and plan and now Syracuse while maybe not yet a recruit itself place but as the ol recruit Reese said "Syracuse ws much better than I thought it would be". A place that better recruits while indeed say is better than they thought and a place they can call home for the next four years.

That's just another tool schools can use against us. I can hear Harbaugh now, "Syracuse? Seriously? You like being 6'1" don't you?
