Football draws the biggest crowds by far. It was foolish to pick a timeframe when home football games were scheduled. Not sure what 7 month cycle they could hit that wouldn't be an issue though. they get the best of the weather. Has anything really changed on how much traffic is going thru the city on 81 yet?
The viaduct may as well be a huge wall in that it blocks the view. I imagine there is a big psychological effect, somewhat of an out-of-sight out-of-mind.I'm not city planner, but am I the only one that doesn't see how this project is going to reconnect the city? You still have a major 4 lane roadway going through the city, with not many places for people to walk or bike across safely, major topographical changes, and the CSX railway which will still be a bridge. Maybe I just can't envision it, and will have to see it when it's complete.
seems like maybe working extended hrs would have been worth it for this piece of the project if possbleFootball draws the biggest crowds by far. It was foolish to pick a timeframe when home football games were scheduled.
This is going to really hurt getting to and from the dome. In the summer,
would assume it will hurt employees and students at SU and maybe SUNY Upstate and the VA.
I think the real problem will be summer concerts at the dome and home football games. Not a great decision to destroy traffic for a season. The timing is not ideal.

This ^^^ If there's any advance planning, doing things like opening up Irving Ave, adding more cops further out allowing for unimpeded traffic flows leaving the hill would really be nice. Not sure who owns that discussion with the city.Your underselling this to be honest. Starting this Sat for the last lax home game it's gonna be an absolute mess, for the 2 fall fball games it's gonna be Armageddon. They better waive the irving ave one way decision for game days or their gonna have a riot on their hands when it takes 5 hours to get out of west lot parking with literally only one way out and now they want to re-route everyone down by Marshall Street, good fn luck.
They are very close to having Morgan Wallen for a 2 night event at the Dome as the summer concertLooks like a 7-8 month project.
I don't see any concerts at the Dome this Summer. You can either inconvenience people for a couple of football games, or you can lose an entire football and basketball season.
Getting out of the lots when Irving is the only exit will be a bigger PITA than usual.
People don't remember before 81 went up and Route 11 to Pennsylvania, took almost an hour to get through the city.can you say "cluster...", I thought you could.
Oh wow...that would be massive. Would probably sell out both nightsThey are very close to having Morgan Wallen for a 2 night event at the Dome as the summer concert

It's gonna do jack all to reconnect the city. People will just find the fastest ways to avoid the surface roads or take as few as possible until they can reconnect to 81.
What are the other options? Weather pretty much dictates when you can start, doesn't it? And CNY doesn't get reliably warm until April.Football draws the biggest crowds by far. It was foolish to pick a timeframe when home football games were scheduled.

Armageddon? How many people will New Hampshire and California draw? If it’s more than 40k I will be surprised. At worst, it’s a temporary PITAYour underselling this to be honest. I hate the “PC” element of this project. ( I think the tunnel would have been best, but understand the financial constraints and physical challenges to it.) That said, they did a similar thing in an area of Boston, and at the time I read up on it (maybe 2 years ago) there were a lot of positive changes in the area that came about, so I am open minded about it. Other than my tax dollars, or when I travel to see my son in Norfolk, the whole project won’t really impact me. However, I hate when they make these announcements a political ad.I mean, it is what it is. I'll be tailgating (before and--I guess now--after too) in Ray lot. Blue Bronco. Come say hi...we're all gonna have time to kill.
There's two parts of it. First, ever stop at that little Dunkin on Almond Street? There's like four city blocks of unhealthy trees covered in brake dust scattered about all the concrete pillars. Roughly the same size as Armory square, but it's wasted space that's too loud and sort of toxic to hang out in. There are legit plans to turn that kind of space into those SoDoYoLoHo type of neighborhoods.
Second, this was always going to be expensive. The viaduct is no longer serviceable. "Reconnect the city" is a *way* easier sell (to residents/taxpayers/lawmakers) than "Spend a bunch of money to keep things the same." So they embellished as much as there was to embellish.
To your point, the "get people to stop in the city" is indeed ridiculous.
But I think there is a real upside for football here if we can develop more Marshall St/Armory Square style stuff in Dome proximity. Right now downtown and the hill are like two separate cities separate by some weirdly placed industrial buildings and parking lots. I'd love for that to become our Kerrytown.
The early returns on filling in portions of Rochester’s inner loop have been positive, although I do miss the convenience of the complete loop.I hate the “PC” element of this project.
