New Traffic Pattern for Dome West Lots (Apr-Nov)

This is going to really hurt getting to and from the dome. In the summer,

would assume it will hurt employees and students at SU and maybe SUNY Upstate and the VA.

I think the real problem will be summer concerts at the dome and home football games. Not a great decision to destroy traffic for a season. The timing is not ideal.
Like the old Fram oil filter commercial said: "Pay me now or pay me later."

They are very close to having Morgan Wallen for a 2 night event at the Dome as the summer concert
What is the percentage that this is a done deal so I can ditch my tickets to his Baltimore shows?

Just saw that Chris Brown and Usher were announced at the Dome in August. Not sure if this was the big show Sala was talking about or another one is still in the works?

Can’t blame NYSDOT for the timing of the work. They’ve chosen this timeframe after consulting with the university.
And the university has been planning on the traffic, movement, parking ramifications for over a year. Doesn't mean it won't be a nightmare, but there will be a plan. My understanding is that part of that plan will include more shuttles from additional locations for the summer concert and early fall football games.

I wonder if this means they couldn’t close on wallen because that was the priority

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Social engineering through planned inconvenience. Why do you need a car when all of life is within walking distance.

Once 481 becomes 81, city becomes even more of an afterthought and “is it worth it” decision to do anything there, including going to games.
Yeah. It'll be great for people that live in the city, but if the goal is to draw people from outside it, it'll have the opposite affect. Convenience drives a lot of decisions.

The Shuttles for Manley and Skytop are already a mess post game, add about 5K+ more people and you'll be better off walking homeI
I've shuttled back to Manley once in the two years since I started parking there. Always walk. It feels great after sitting for 3 hours, and lets me walk off some steam after a loss.

It will take time for people to grasp the traffic circles, but factually, they move traffic significantly quicker than lights and stop signs.

Wait till the project is finished - assessing it right now is like assessing our recruiting class before it’s finished.
They are also far safer. It’s tough to run a traffic circle and broadside someone

The specific issue with the Brighton avenue circles are multiple, but mostly temporary.

1). NYSDOT is going to improve the signage directing people. It’s not complete yet.
2). There is still significant truck traffic in the area due to detours and some lingering construction. Both will be resolved soon.
3). The final issue isn’t going away. With Brighton Towers, Nob Hill and Iroquois Nursing home nearby, there is a much greater pct of elderly drivers using those circles. They are more cautious and less adaptable to these types of changes.

I don’t anticipate similar issues at the Van Buren circle once complete.

The University has successfully used Drumlins with a school bus shuttle for concerts. I would bet my last dollar they will do for the two fall football games. I would think they may look at other locations as well, the problem is that if you get too far away from campus, buses get stuck in the same traffic.

Ironically, Drumlins used to host pregame activities when the team played at Archbold Stadium.

They ought to coordinate with Oakwood and let the buses drop folks off at the back of the Maxwell/Forestry school, although I don’t know if they could take them all the way up and turn around. A nice contribution would pave the way

This would have to be for summer of 27 because his concert schedule/tour is well secured for this year and already started.

Maybe a stop over at lakeview but hes not bringing his stadium tour, at this point, to the dome for two nights.

Good idea. You offering?

A shirt tail relative used to run it. The very best parking for Dome events. It would save buses from having to go down Comstock. They could run from the other parking areas (Skytop, Drumlins, etc.) down Colvin, and enter there.

In fairness to SU, the shuttle system has operated better in the last year or two. But, when it rains it's miserable to stand in line after the game for 15 minutes.

not sure how true that is. seen tons of accidents at our local ones
Not usually the level of injuries. Even if you don't merge well, you are usually traveling much slower than if you just keep going through a stop sign. I think people anticipate issues with the circles instead of figuring out the flow and moving along. Heck, I've had to do it with standard transmission vans (Left side steering and left handed shifting) in England and Ireland.

Traffic circles are great. They're going up in north metro Atlanta everywhere and it's a big help.

Gotcha. I was told for this year but next year makes more sense. Thanks!

They're way more efficient than traditional intersections. It keeps traffic moving at a steady pace. There is no cost or maintenance for stop lights. And most importantly, it's extremely difficult to have a fatal accident in a traffic circle due to the slow speed.

One caveat, in my area there a bunch of them in high-foot-traffic zones, and I imagine the pedestrians would not fare so well even on the edge of a circle. They’ve started including flashing lights to help, but I’ve seen some close calls in that regard.
