Next up NC State...

NC State - Losses to Indiana, Stanford, & Vanderbilt ...win over Texas

9 players with 10+ minutes per game - 6 players average in double figures

3 of their top 4 scorers are forwards including CJ Leslie, their leading scorer who also has 13 blocks

Richard Howell, their third leading scorer, is also a forward and leads the teams in rebounds

Lorenzo Brown, their 2nd leading scorer, also leads them in assists & steals

Scott Wood, another forward, attempts the most 3's and makes 57% of them

Sounds like they have a very balanced attack. Big question.. can they handle our guards pressure... how much do they turn the ball over?

107 TO's to 57 steals...their top 3 guards have turned the ball over 51 times

Thanks Shenexon... interesting... do you have those stats for us for comparison?

NC State is 5-3 with losses to Vandy, Indiana and @ Stanford (not bad losses at all) ... no quality wins. Squeaked by Texas (77-74) and Princeton (60-58) at NC State. Their stats are good: 45th ppg (77.5), 73rd rpg (38), 27th apg (16), and 38th fg%age (.478) ... Wood () is their 3-pt specialist (20/35) and Howell (6-8 ) their best rebounder (8.4). CJ Leslie, of course, is their #1 (averaging 14.8 ppg) ... but overall they have 6 men averaging in double figures. They will go 8 deep.

If anybody thinks this game is going to be a walk in the park ... I would say forget it. ... especially playing there. Probably the 3rd or 4th best team in the ACC. This could be our toughest game since Florida and we had Florida in the dome. If we get by these guys (and Tulane) it should be smooth sailing until Pitt

Yup - this is our first road game, so it will be interesting to see how the team plays in a hostile environment, especially the "youngins"...

NC State 305 RB, 128 Assists, 107 TO, and 57 Steals

SU 387 RB, 172 Assists, 119 TO, and 123 Steals

SU has 10 guys averaging 10+ minutes per game, have 3 guys in double figures with many supporting players

I believe they were up like 10 on Stanford either around half time or into 2nd half before blowing the lead...fwiw

Thanks for the details Shenexon. Their guards are Lorenzo and who else? Are they deep at the guard position? If not and we pressure them heavily they may wear down.

Stanford went to Zone D and the game turned around.

Their leading scorers are two sophomores, two juniors, and one senior...in that order

They have a sophomore guard who is their second leading scorer and assist leader...Lorenzo Brown

The also have two senior guards with significant minutes, C.J. Williams & Alex Johnson...Williams scores in double figures

Williams makes 31% of his threes, but the other two don't shoot so well from outside

Scott Wood, a forward is their main outside threat shooting 57%...Alex Johnson shoots a lot of them but only makes 20% as does Lorenzo Brown

Leslie and Howell were both impressive at the Dome last year. As I recall, they had a pretty easy time getting the ball into the high post; with our improved defense up top, it'll be interesting to see if they have success with that again.

We're as likely to press State as we were to press Tech and Stanford - not unless we're down 8 with 7:00 to play.

Unless State just doesn't show up for this one (and that seems unlikely), I think this is our toughest opponent yet. They're more balanced than Florida and are more familiar with us.

I agree that this is probably the key... can our guards pressure and trap enough on top to cause havoc, chaos and turnovers. If NC State is careful with the ball and are getting it easily into the top of the key/post it may be interesting...

Wood was solid too...hitting several threes keeping that game much closer for an extended time than it should've been.

Plus if we're #1 that will make nc state and the crowd even more jacked up. Tough game, wish we had 1 more cupcake to enjoy an easy win as #1

I think the one thing going for us is that this is our first road game, and we should be focused. I hope this isn't one of those games where we play lax defense and play one-on-one on offense... to take this game we are going to need to play with our best defensive intensity.

On average, we get over a steal more per game than any other team in the country. I hope we birdwatch all year.

RBC arena will NOT be a hostile environment. SU fans may outnumber NCSU fans.

NC State students also will not be in attendance. Ratchets down the hostility.
