This has been a great year - our high profile QB is everything we could hope for. He takes advantage of a nice collection of WRs. Not sure when we see such a good passer wearing Orange & Blue again. Well worth the $$$.

Anyone have any insight on the recruitment cycle for next year's QB? Any early guesses?

i.e. BC's QB?

Let's enjoy the ride, but man, next year's schedule. Away games - Tennessee, ND, Clemson, Miami

Happy Thanksgiving week!

That was a big disappointment yesterday, I had really hope - especially after the first TD - that we MIGHT have a chance to see Williams in briefly for a series or two at the end of the game.

Can’t we just have Kyle grow a stache and say he is Lyle McCord his twin who was home schooled? Then we get 4 more years.
No way that works with him keeping the last name. If he goes with Barry Baker, they may be onto something.

QB is the most important position, Williams is a very talented kid but we need a veteran QB with that schedule
Do we? Look at what ncst did this year and now GT with Philo. Let’s save the money for 2026 given the gauntlet next year is, we can use the opportunity to see if Jakhari or Carney has potential.

That being said, if doeren gets fired I think Fran will go hard for CJ Bailey. Another guy I like is Devon Dampier at New Mexico (under Jason Beck) but he’s probably going to stay in the west

Agreed. I can see it playing out one of three ways.

1. Williams is good enough to start, and builds upon this year's apprenticeship and takes the reins this offseason.
2. Incoming frosh Carney is so good, he leapfrogs Williams and uses spring practice to get ready to start next year.
3. Either / both of them need more time to develop, so we go "sell" an experienced QB on McCord's success.

I'm guessing #3 will be the option Fran and staff pursue.

Look what we did with Kyle, 8-9 wins with all our warts. I get it, the trenches are crucial and should be a huge priority but QB is the single most important position in all of sports. Get a one year guy and use the bulk of the remaining NIL cash on player retention and trenches upgrades. Also, is the school able to start paying players in 2025? That will help. Anyone who knows is welcome to answer that one for me!

Agree about Bailey, he may leave even if DD is retained

Revenue sharing doesn’t begin until July so retention / portal is most important piece to start. I could see us adding a guy who wants to challenge and compete but not an elite guy who is going to command a lot of money. We need to take a moneyball approach this cycle. Next year will even out more.

We have a lot of young talent on defense. We need more depth on the line and we need a stud linebacker. Beyond that we need to retain our young talent.

Need 2 stud linebackers.

If Kyle opts out, who start for us in the bowl game? That might give us a clue as to next year.

Sluka was promised 100K and got 3K and he's a quitter?

I don't think so.

Let's see what you do if you show up at work and your paycheck is 3% of what you expect it to be.
Sluka is a pure runner. We ain’t going to go that route. That would be a complete 180 in terms of philosophy and structure of the offense.

Castellanos quit the team because he lost the QB1 job to his backup.
There is no way in Hades he’s playing at SU next season.
Also when he went out against Cuse… that turned the fortunes for them. He was awful.

I honestly dont think you can “save money for 2026”. If we have a 2-10 season like FSU, we don’t have the cache to build back again easily. It’s not like people seek out Cuse over say GT, NCST, UNC or Virginia. We need to be good again next year even tho the gauntlet is nasty.

Fran has also said multiple times that he’s not going to go after a qb that only has one yr of eligibility left. He wants a guy that has multiple to really build w. Kyle was just the perfect scenario and the cohesion was effortless.

If we want to be in the big time, and I believe anyone whose on here is a diehard and wants that, than we are going to need it continue to pony up each year to remain competitive.

Oh and 1 last thing before my rant is over…if football ever goes to the top 60 or so teams in the country, we need to be in that, and with a bad year or two, we could be on the outside looking in.
