Next year - QB?

What the hell is happening here?

Also, why are their random arrows over some of your i’s & o’s?
What is happening here is not hard to figure out at all if you have a shred of a sense of humor.

The arrows are because somehow I ended up with keyboard on francais or deutsch mode. Im sure thats not hard to figure out how to change it as well but i kinda like it.

lol

If I was a betting man, I would bet that Fran already has someone in mind from the portal. At the very least, Fran knows what he needs to win.
This. Fran isn’t the type to leave to question who will be playing at the mos important position on the team next season. I’m sure he already has someone in mind and contingencies.

That’s one of the things I love about him - the guy is always thinking ahead and has his $&@$ together.

I love how wildhack alluded to this in his introductory presser . I wish I could’ve heard those conversations.

Yeah, if we weren't kicking off the entire football season against an SEC team I'd say rolling with a young guy we believe in is fine.

But we have the chance to make a statement right at the beginning of the season.

If we can get a guy that's more of a sure thing that's something we have to explore for our QB1.
I think a lot of people are severely underestimating how important McCord is to this offense. We won’t find another passer as accurate as he is but we need to find someone who checks a lot of the boxes. Look at how dungey masked a lot of problems with both the talent on the line and the play calling.

Break the bank and triple the national deficit for a QB.

Sluka was neck and neck w the backup in camp. He didn’t get his NIL money and UNLV was like “not sure we need him” … black eye to UNLV NIL but they saved $ and got better

Peanut Butter Anjeli is from NJ. and he is going to be in a tight 3 way race at ND as prob the 3rd guy.
Do we want ND's 3rd guy? I guess if he wants to come and compete and is significantly better than Jakhari, but if thats the case, we should be going far and wide for help.

Both quit on their teams mid season. No thanks.

But I’ll phrase it differently - I’m done with QBs who can’t throw. Is that better?
No one on this board would keep playing / working if you were promised 100K and only got 3K

Technically he quit but it’s not fair to label him a quitter.

That said I don’t want him here next season but only because I want a better QB closer to McCord than Shrader

Angeli is a former four-star QB from Westfield NJ.
He has been Riley Leonard's backup all season, so he's only thrown the ball 28 times. Last year he was the backup for Sam Hartman. It's ND so there are at least a couple QBs already on the roster (like CJ Carr) who are probably at least as good as Angeli.
It makes sense that Angeli may want to look for better opportunities unless he likes being a backup.
He's from NJ (Bergen Catholic), Fran might have some pull.

He's no Kyle McCord but maybe he would be a good fit at SU.

How about starting a collective to bribe (ie petition) the NCAA to give McCord one more year?
Do we know for sure he would want to come back? I’m not sure his NFL draft stock can go higher, especially given the harder schedule next year, losing a ton of weapons (OG, Meeks, Trebor? Lequint?)

While we should hit the portal I would calibrate expectations some. McCord was a bit of a portal unicorn I think for SU coming from a starting role at a top 4 program AND had NJ ties with Fran. Not saying we still can't get a good player but I am not sure how often a player like that (as good as McCord was talent wise) will shake free to us. Also happy to see lightening strike twice.

If the staff is going for a QB transfer it would probably be another one-year guy. That won't scare off Williams or Carney.
That is my concern as well, especially with Williams. Hope he is patient and believes he will eventually get his chance to start.

yes we do. he has been great in mop up duty the last 2 years as the primary backup.

but ND has 2 other high 4star/5 star kids.

The only thing that could be considered a downside to Angeli depending on how much people think it impacts Williams and Carney is it looks like he has two years of eligibility left after this season.

Personally, I think that's a good thing. If he has a great year he could be in position to jump. If he ends up being a solid two year starter that's just fine, even if it means we churn some younger guys.

Angeli's numbers for those scoring at home are 52/72 for 72% completion percentage, 728 yards, and 10 TDs versus 1 interception.

That's pretty awesome.

But what kind of Anjeli is his favorite— grape or strawberry or raspberry?

Trick question, there is only one right answer. Orange Marmalade.

I think he would be a good fit as long as he doesn't cost and arm and a leg. If he comes here and wins QB1, great. But if he doesn't and you paid $1M to get him here?

Most of his game reps have been garbage duty but he has looked really good. He did look great in the Bowl game and those were real reps.

Based on what is out there, I think he could be the best portal option.
