Since we all must be bored as hell as witnessed by the 1,000+ post Marrone thread (my goodness who really cares anymore?), I thought it might be fun to speculate on the open NFL jobs. Bearing in mind the NFL owners pass on or make the final HC decisons, anything is possible, here are mine.

Teams with horrible defenses
Atlanta Falcons
- the common wisdom is that the Falcons are set on offense since they have Matt Ryan at QB - they were 12th in total offense. They were 27th in total defense. My favorite choice is Rex Ryan. Rex has never had an offense as potent as the current Falcons offense and Matt Ryan is light years ahead of any Jets QB in well, as long as I care to remember.

Teams with horrible offenses
Buffalo Bills - Mike Shanahan (with his son as OC). The Bills want someone to coach up EJ Manuel and this may be the combo to do it. Besides, who else would go there now.

San Francisco 49ers - The Niners were 25th in total offense and 10th in total defense. Still, the Niners could go OC or DC. However, I am going with long shot Adam Gase (OC Denver Broncos). He is only 36 with no HC experience and only two years as Bronco OC.

Teams with horrible everything
Oakland Raiders - Ranked dead last in total D and second from last in total O, the Raiders could go either way but what they really need is a HC with experience. Jack Del Rio, Denver DC could be the best choice. He has had really good defenses everywhere he has been. He has HC experience with a 68-71 record at Jacksonville with three playoffs (1-2). With Jacksonville that is a good record! He had absolutely no offense to work with at one of the weakest NFL franchises. Del Rio is a California native. Carr is probably the best QB Del Rio would coach as a HC. This make too much sense and the Raiders probably won't do it! Still, my choice is Jack.

NY Jets - I think the Jets problems were caused primarily by the worst GM in NY football history. That said, they now need a HC that can sort this mess out. While they probably should pick someone with HC experience, like Saint Doug, they probably are too stupid to do so. My guess - Dan Quinn (DC Seattle Seahawks). He was DL coach for the Jets in 2007-2008 and is a Jersey kid.

Chicago Bears - The Bears could do anything, after all they hired Trestman. Since they were second from last in total defense it would seem that fixing the D is the top priority. On the other hand their O stunk as well (24th) so they might go for a QB fixer. They have a bundle of talented offensive players so perhaps all they need is to deal with the Cutler issue and move on. Chicago is a defensive town - my pick is Todd Boyles (DC Arizona Cardinals).

What are your guesses?

Atl--Rex
Buff--Reich
NYJ--Quinn
Chicago--Bowles
Oakland--Eric Mangini
SF-Tomsula

There are my guesses how it plays out

I think Atlanta should go with Rex, but I don't see Blank embracing what comes with him. I think they will go with McDaniels due to all the NE connections.

For the others:
Buffalo- Reich.
Chicago- Marrone
Jets-Quinn
SF- Malzahn
Oakland-Bowles

agree with you rex in atlanta, jack delrio in oakland, todd bowles in chicago
nyj mike shanahan with his experince he can handle the nj/ny media
buffalo frank reich as san diego qb coach i think he be a good young coach to coach up ej and he won't be swallowed up by the media like he would of if with jets.
san fran gary kubiak

Atlanta - Rexy
Buffalo - Schwartz
Chicago - Bowles
NYJ - Dougie
Oakland - Del Rio
San Fran - Shanahan (either or both)

Heavy on retreads as I think most of the rising assistants are too inexperienced at this point. Ones that have their names out there this season will be much stronger candidates next year.

As SF fan that's whom I'm for is both and they keep the current defensive coordinator.
Agree about Atlanta with Rex too. As had stated in a post similar to this last week or so hire Trestman as the OC.

ATL - Rex or Marrone (with Rex being the heavy favorite)
Jets - Dan Quinn or Marrone (with Quinn the heavy favorite)
Chicago - Bowles
Oakland - Tony Sparano
San Fran - The Shanahans
Buffalo - Hue Jackson (honestly no idea why...just have a weird feeling it will be him or Schwartz)

NYJ-Marrone
ATL-Josh McDaniels
SF- Mike Shanahan
Oak-Jack Del Rio
Chi- Todd Bowles
Buf- Frank Reich

"Not so fast my friend " . Ryan Pace new Bears GM.

I know I saw that too - if the Jets don't act soon, I thinks the Bears will counter.

Marrone would be a good fit into the Bears as it's the old black n blue division of old time smash mouth football. Very aligned with Marrones offensive mindset and strategy - Pace and Marrone will try and recreate the Saints offensive system. Swartz & Marrone could be a packaged deal too. Everyone on the Saints staff will recommend Marrone to the Bears ownership too.

I think things just got a lot more interesting and murky for Marrone. He may not be so endearing to the Jets anymore except NY is his hometown. Jets should have acted sooner as I now think Marrone will go "multiple" :D since he will have more than 1 offer now.

Is it always stupid to hire a coach without head coaching experience or it there something special about the jets's situation that makes it stupid to hire a first time head coach?

Papa Bear Halas is pulling for Doug . He would take him as his own.

Buffalo - GRob
Come to think of it, I saw him at the Buffalo train station (said he was waiting for the little one).

Adam Shein has a theory about the NYDN carpet bombing of Marrone. The don't want him to get the job because of the good relationship he has with ESPN and NYP guys and they will not have comparable access.

That's ridiculous. sChein is a baffoon.

Ya keep hearing how close Pace and Marrone were. Ugh, would rather not have Doug

He's not the only one who has talked about the NYDN having an agenda in the smear campaign.

I'm in Chicago the locals aren't talking about Doug much at all but only Pace talking about him matters I guess. It sounds like the Jets may be done with Doug so if the Bears don't come through Doug will be rich and unemployed.

Maybe they just don't like him and think the jets can get a better coach.

I actually haven't heard that at all from anyone I know. I've heard the media has generated a connection between the two because they worked for the Saints at the same time - specifically brad briggs citing an unnamed source that they were close. Nobody in the organization knows what direction he is going to go and if he interviews Marrone it's purely because he is trying to interview multiple people. People forget that Marrone was the "assistant offensive coordinator" and a lot of the communication was between Pace/Loomis and Payton.

I'm hoping Hue Jackson stays in Cincy and takes over for Marvin Lewis (after Marvins contract expires next year)

Kind of shocked no one has been hired yet, I guess this proves a lot of current playoff coordinators will get hired once their teams lose.
