NFL Coaching Carousel - where do they wind up?

Pace has interviewed 1 already, 2 scheduling interviews, and 1 coordinator there's an attempt to schedule an interview --> none of them Marrone.

Looks like Quinn, Gase, Austin and Todd Bowles seem to be the names in demand so far in the NFL HC searches. may be other interviews of course, but these are the interviews (done or scheduled) so far. It is quite possible that Saint Doug may not land a HC job this year. No slam against him, but the competition is fierce.

Adam Gase OC Denver 4
Teryl Austin DC Detroit 4
Todd Bowles DC Arizona 4
Josh McDaniels OC New England 3

Darrell Bevell OC Seattle 2
Doug Marrone HC Buffalo 2

Guess this means another football season of "OT: Bills" threads multiple times a week and big boy threads on Sunday's. At least he'll pretend every year the Bills are ready to win the Super Bowl.

Rex with that defense will be very good. Same problem he had in NY though. No QB and he needs to build and coach up the offense. His history has shown he can't

Rex needs to find an oc and qb coach badly wherever he goes. Rex with an average offense and qb is a legit Super Bowl contender. Much easier said than done though

His last few OC hires have been awful. Tony Sparano. Marty Morninwig. Rex just has no eye for offensive talent. On the field or with coaches.

Bills defense was pretty good this year, I think it's just assumed he makes it better by being the coach. We'll have to see.

Agreed, he has had poor coaching and poor qb talent.

My issue with Rex, he reminds me a lot of Todd on "Gold Rush". I was in sales for 8 years and have been a teacher now for 8 years. I can smell B.S. a mile away and every press conference Rex smells of it. The scary thing with guys like Rex and Todd, they believe their B.S. Those types of people are some of the scariest people in the world.

Atlanta is perfect for Rex. Grab a good OC and with Matty Ice he is in the hunt.

All his players love him so I guess your olfactory nerves are better than theirs. All those defensive stats account for nothing?

There are a lot of likable coaches in the NFL, half of them get fired from year to year. His defensive stats account for something with the Jets and not with the Bills. Just because he had success, or the defense he was a head coach of had success, doesn't instantly mean he will have defensive success with the Bills - if he's hired. There are a lot of coaches who do well for one team and don't for another, and vice versa.

My only point is, his defensive success with the Jets doesn't guarantee the same success with the Bills.

Your point was that he was full of BS and was one of the scariest types of people in the world. I thought that was way over the top.

Your may not like Rex, but he can coach. His defenses at both the Ravens and Jets were among the best in the game.

Rex is having his second interview with the Bills tonight. He also has been reported as being interested in Trestman as his next O wherever he lands.

That is exactly the type of guy Rex needs as an oc/ qb coach

The Bills have interviewed 14 candidates and will interview a few more as the playoffs unfold. While this casting a wide net may seem like the thing to do, I wonder if it might prove to be counterproductive. All of the candidates have the credentials or they wouldn't get an interview. These types of hiring have so much to do with chemistry and culture that they boil down to an intuitive feel. It will be interesting to see what develops and who gets hired.

I think you took it too personal, I was partially joking around about the B.S. stuff and obviously I don't think he's one of the scariest people in the world. My whole point in making the connection with "Todd", is that each year, all you would hear about is Rex proclaiming success and this was the year, etc. etc. If you watch the "Gold Rush" show Rex does have the same qualities as Todd.

And IMO, Trestman is a genius. Maybe not HC material, although the circumstances weren't ideal but he def would/will make a great OC in the right situation.

Atlanta better enjoy that first year with Rex. He will shortly rid the team of any pricey offensive talent to reallocate the money to defense. They will wind up like the Jets, starved of any offense. Rex doesn't see the big picture, he's really just a defensive coordinator.

I think you are confusing him with the GM who left $20 million in cap money on the table.

Went right over my head!

Idzik was a total incompetent as a GM but the jettisoning of offensive talent began years before Idzik arrived. It started with All Pro left guard Alan Faneca to save a paultry $1.5M.

Faneca was cut by the Jets at the end of 2010 and retired after 2011. That one was a good call by then GM Mike Tannenbaum.

So far we have Rex going to the Bills, the Jets drooling over Quinn, the Bears going after Kubiak. The Falcons have apparently narrowed the search to Todd Bowles and Dan Quinn. No clues yet on Oakland or San Fran.

Sources say Doug Marrone has standing offer to be consultant with Texans.
