Nick Williams to FSU

I’m mad because i loved the energy and recruiting Nick brought to SU. I’m a little confused about wanting some world class DE coach over a high-end recruiter that the players love? We have Dwight Freeney working with the team part-time for a reminder. I don’t care how good or bad a coach you are, nobody is doing anything with the talent we just had. Now we have some in the pipeline, but certain position coaches need to be recruiters. i would qualify DE coach as one of them.

Make sure you’re OC, DC, QB, OL, ST coaches are on point and load the rest up with recruiters . Fran takes care of corners himself.

Do we know that Nick just didn't do this on his own?

Everyone is replaceable. If they're not, then the leader is doing a terrible job.

Agreed, in most years, any position coach at SU would gladly jump to FSU. Seems like maybe that was the case here.

Fair question, and we don't know, well at least I don't know. On balance I'd believe that the new coordinator said sorry I want guys I hand pick who will teach the way I want them to without needing a lot of remediation.

How should we take it?

Could mean new DC wants his own guys (which is my guess)

Or Williams was a problem.

That’s why analyzing these doesn’t make a ton of sense even though we all (myself included always do it). We really have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes.

Feels like he wasn’t super thrilled about the ERob situation but took the high road and gave a brief nod to Fran.

He was an erob guy. happens when you switch out the DC, too. And I'm sure he got a decent raise.

We had one of the worst defenses in the country the past two years. Changing out some of the pieces is not exactly shocking.

That's all of the pieces now and honestly it's for the best with a new DC coming in. Let him get his guys.

So - the full time DL coach, whose literal job is to coach these guys,
shouldn’t be blamed that the DL sucked?

But a part time HOF’er who helps out now and again, should be?

Well if we didn’t have the talent, and your DC (former line coach) and DL coach are known as top recruiters…..

I loved his energy and the approach to recruiting but let’s face it - unless we’re attracting 5 star linemen who can play year 1 then we need line coaches that can develop talent.

I get it. As you say, there’s a knee jerk reaction by some folks to downplay a guy on his way out, players and coaches. I mean, I remember the “we’re better off without Donnie Freeman” thread!

I’m just saying that it’s not like we’re gonna go without a DE coach, and who knows who that replacement will be. I just can’t get too worked up about assistants leaving since the profession is constant movement.

i didn’t say that. Im basically saying the mostly upperclassmen DL sucked and if Freeney couldn’t help them, then how was Nick supposed to? Reasonable expectations must be set for a group that plain and simple we’re bodies that filled jerseys.
