In the Super Bowl, the refs, having marked the ball for play, stood between the center and Russell Wilson to prevent the play from starting so the Patriots could complete a substitution before the play started.
I've never seen that before. I always thought you could snap the ball during a substitution and stick the other team with a penalty for too many men on the field. That's point of the no huddle offense, to give the defense no opportunity to substitute.
Did the NFL change the rules to prevent the quick-snaps?
