boy this spring game should be more riveting than usual...oy ve:eek:

See you there anyway gents (I think).

It will be worth watching if you're a football fan. There will be an offense in play that will be new to everybody, not from a philosophy standpoint, but from our team.

Depth is a concern in multiple position groups right now, I literally don't think you could split into two teams.

Shafer doesn't want anyone there.

The guy is in full manage expectations mode.

So much for locking them in the dome and kicking ass.

Now it's keep it close and vanilla. Don't want to tip Central Michigan off on the Lester tight wing offense.

Well you sound like a box full of fun this morning

really I hadn't heard that this season, and just read in the paper how healthy they are this spring compared to past season, so I don't think it's a numbers thing.

You're right though with respect to being a fan, we'll still be there and enjoy to a degree, but man o man would've nice to see more of a game format like most everyone else vs. watching more of a practice. Here's hoping it leads to good things down the road.

While I'm not as cynical, I agree with you. Shafer is too caught up in trying to control everything.

It's not injuries- it's attrition. There aren't enough bodies at safety and running back right now to adequately split things up.

Sounds more to me like he just doesn't see value in the game as done in the past. He tried to be creative last year and got a ton of flack. I think he is forgetting that no matter what you do in CNY it isn't good enough

That's why I said the other day, just cancel the Spring Game and have a closed practice.

Everyone will get over it.

Don't waste a practice, you only get 15 and we have too much work to do to turn things around.

Still nice to be able to see the team in action. Next opportunity is September.

not surprised.

lester, couldnt handle having 2 offenses as a QB coach, how the hell could he handle 2 as the OC??

Sure, but it's a very small minority of SU fans, and coming off a 3-9 season with plenty of new faces on D, an all new system on O, we have bigger problems than presenting something vanilla for those who come out. These are the fans you'd never lose anyway.

Espn is really playing up spring games as a big thing now, many are covered on TV and receive coverage on sportscenter.

I think its going to be a real disappointment to all the recruits we have that its just a regular practice with very few people in attendance

- Sometimes you just gotta go out and let the kids play ball and put on a show. I'm not sure one practice is going to make the difference between us getting hammered by LSU vs keeping it close.

now if they stick with protocol and start it again at 1230 with the announced 1pm start then they'll have hit all the bases...

Unless they go back to Fort Drum. Then you get a look two weeks before season starts.

Maybe this whole "no game" scenario is an April Fool stunt?... Nah...didn't think so either.

what difference does a score and clock make? we have had spring game with offense and it meant the D stunk and had games with no score and it meant both sides were awful.. does it really matter who wins in the first bball game at midnight madness?

Totally agree. If you're going to go this route, just keep it closed and get another worthwhile practice in. I'm not sure what this is? It's not for the fans, and it's not really anything beneficial to the team since Shafer already said everything will be vanilla. So ummm what's the point? Just another questionable decision (albeit a meaningless one) in what's starting to be a long list of them.
