Noel and Melo...

True, and this might be the case with Fab given his size. But with Dion .. who's a 6'4" shooting guard (pretty small for the NBA), who's really not a deadeye marksman from outside, I think he'd be smart to come back and establish himself as a distributor with the potential to run an NBA offense.

This mock has him late first... (which means he could slip to 2nd... not a good reason to come out). http://www.mynbadraft.com/2012-NBA-Mock-Draft

Again it has nothing to do with being smart or wether or not another season in college would help their game. Often times another season exposses more weaknesses and players draft stock drops. Dion is plenty big enough to be a PG in the NBA which is the possition he will play.

I keep telling myself that Fab's not ready, that Waiters is a tweener (SG/PG) and hasn't accomplished anything or led the team, et.c.. Then I look at this:

http://nbadraft.net/2012mock_draft

I find it so hard to believe Dion could be a top 15 pick this year. I think he's more like 6'2" or 6'3" tops, doesn't shoot well (or quickly) or off the dribble much, has a good, but not great handle, has questionable decision making and the ability to finish over the trees, and isn't a quick twitch guard like so many in the NBA. If he's really only 6'2" or something, he needs to return and improve his game greatly. Not being able to shoot well or have the quickness needed to beat defenders makes it tough for guys that size. He can get up and dunk in transition, buy we've really seen him struggle lately in the half court. Can he finish over the 6'10"+ athletes in the NBA? I don't think so. I'd love to see him make the smart decision to come back, become more of a PG and a much better jump shooter. If he does that, he could certainly be a lottery pick in 2013. Right now, I think he's been hyped up a bit from being a 6th man and throwing down some thunder dunks. He's hit some big shots for us, but the consistency just isn't there, nor do I think it comes any time soon without a lot more work on his game.

If Christmas could start next to Melo, so can Noel. Melo and Noel would be an amazing shot blocking pair. Sicne Coleman apaears to be the only one of these with much of an offensive game, including the ability to make jump shots, I would think he would see time at power forward. Keita and Christmas are both clearly centers. I think it's unlikely we'll have all four but you never know.

Dion will not be playing SG in the NBA

I think ppl are getting their hopes up about getting Noel he's going to Kentucky. If he would have came out in 2013 we would have a shot but now it's not happening.

Cool story bro

Why would you think that? Fab will be gone Noel can step right in.

that may not be appropros but i think we're all over 17?

How do you know that Fab Melo is leaving? Anthony Davis will be gone Noel can step right in

If Coleman and Noel are going to be on the court at the same time, Coleman will be at the 5 and Noel will be at the 4.

I just dont see Coleman playing the wing of the zone, while Noel can play either the wing or the center.

Going by this, I really dont see how Melo coming back will affect Noel's minutes at all. If anything it will affect Coleman the most.

How do you know that Anthony Davis will be gone? Has Calamari said its likely he won't be around next year? Has he also said as recently as two weeks ago that Davis's return is about 40%?

Probably not because coaches don't usually say these things about players mid season. Interesingly enough JB has basically said these two items or about Fabricio De Melo. I believe Dions odds were similar 50% maybe? Last yr after the season JB said Dion was likely leaving, I don't think he said this because Dion told JB to off one time in a game.

I believe Noel is ours, read his blog post. recognize the timing and his relationships.
I BELIEVE !!

Agreed although I do not believe Fab will be back if he were and Noel came in they are both starting and it effects the other guys minutes not theirs.

Noel would play the 4. He will not be a center in the NBA either.

One Rick Jackson needs to have a discussion with DC.

An even better discussion could be had with Melo. DC could learn a lesson from watching how Melo struggled his freshman year cuz he wasn't in shape.

If Noel commits to Cuse, I don't see a problem if Fab comes back. Noel looks like a 4 to me. Fab starts at the 5, DC2 backs him up. Noes and Xmas split time at the 4. Baye redshirts.

Ya, Noel can "step right in" to a program that has already recruited a top 10 rated 7' Center,
SU has recruited a center and a SF. The PF who's there is averaging 12 minutes and 3 points a game.
This is a perfect situation for Noel. At 6'10" 210 pounds, he's probably not going to play center at Kentucky or SU. And no way he plays C at the next level. So I think he's looking at PF -- and SU has a spot with his name on it. Noel moves well and he blocks shots ... perfect for the zone and moving out to the weak side to guard the wing. We don't need his offense (which isn't developed).
Rak, who I like (nice kid and tremendous upside) is coming along slowly. That's fine. He can back up Noel and play 15-18 minutes next year while Noel explodes.
As far as Fab, you guys must have crystal balls with all your predictions that he's gone. But I think he'll come back and continue to learn. I might be wrong on this... but his stock goes way up after this year and he'll have fewer centers to compete with in the 2013 draft. One factor that hasn't been mentioned is how SU does in the tournament. If we make the final 4 and Fab dominates -- he may decide that he's accomplished enough at this level. If we don't and/or he struggles, that may be enough to bring him back.
Just because he had some incomplete coursework and missed a few games doesn't mean he's soured on the college experience. He's getting plenty of tutoring at the sororities.

don't know why it is tough for people to understand this, but it has less to do with the academics and more to do with the fact that his dream is to play in the NBA and make tons of money

Maybe so, Garbs. As I said, I don't have a crystal ball, and as you point out (along with Jordoo), many times they go before we think they're "ready".
