Not Playing @Ruttie

Yep, USC was the only bad one. Complete giveaway of a Dome game.

ND 4 game series was play in NYC/South Bend or we'll find someone else. Could have said no, but didn't give away a Dome game. That was in ND's "we're not playing in stadiums with less than 65k capacity but we'll make a few exceptions and Syracuse isn't one of them" phase.

PSU was 1-1-1 NYC-Dome-Beaver Stadium, unfortunately the next two never happened.

ND in Yankee Stadium was their home game that they moved.

I only revisit because so often, people just didn't get it.

Jake got ND to agree to a "1 for 2" deal in the 2000's.

2003 in the Dome (The Walter Reyes game).
2005 (the Tim Lane game :( ) and 2008 (the Art Jones game) in South Bend.

You're correct that ND didn't want to come back to the Dome, but they did offer the "South Bend / Met Life" deal instead. I believe the Met Life people payed SU quite well for the games. We might have lost home field advantage, but we didn't lose money.

This was before SU got the ACC invite, and before ND agreed to play 5 ACC teams a year. The Met Life games were kept on the schedule, and one of the South Bend games got moved to the Bronx.
Over the course of ND's 1st 12 year "deal" with the ACC, we'll end up with 2 games at Met Life, 1 game at Yankee Stadium, 1 game in Syracuse (2022) and 1 game in South Bend (2025). Not terrible.

During ND's 2nd 12 year deal, we'll play twice in Syracuse (2029 and 2037), and twice in South Bend (2026 and 2034).

0-1-3 isn’t terrible but because we signed an awful deal we got 0 home games out of it.

Dino hated the 2016 ND game at MetLife and said it very clearly how much he hated it.

I will give Notre Dame a small amount of credit for moving the 2018 game from South Bend to Yankee Stadium but they controlled the game and contractually owe NBC one shamrock game a season and just chose us.

SU took the 2-MetLife 2 Southbend games after Rutgers and Uconn both declined it. That is the very definition of small time.

Syracuse didn’t get to control the gate at MetLife it was 50/50 for SU “home” games.
Syracuse took this series because Dr. Gross needed the $$$ for the athletic department because he was spending a ridiculous amount of money on a bloated budget and needed the advance he got from MetLife to try and balance that budget as much as he could.

Gross screwed the SU FB season ticket holders in Syracuse because he was mismanaging the athletic budget which wasn’t the fans fault.

The Notre Dame series was a mistake and Dr. Gross would admit it if he wouldn’t get blasted for it.

The Jake C series was just an embarrassment. Notre Dame at the Dome wasn’t worth a 1-2* when Michigan/Tennessee/Florida States/Auburn powerhouses would play us 1 for 1.

* note for college football fans. Our 2003 win over ND actually swung the NC that season.
The old BCS used to use opponents opponents record when calculating the numbers.
Our win over Notre Dame was the last week of the season. USC was second in the computers that last week. Our win over ND hurt the Trojans computer numbers and helped LSU pass USC on the last weekend of the season. Thus Syracuse helped LSU win the BCS national title. If ND beats SU then USC plays Oklahoma.

might as well be a home football Saturday looking at the crowd there

Why?

We did the MetLife thing and it didn't work

Not to mention no one will go. Who’s gonna trek there vs watching on the couch. Especially now but even using 2019 logic.

Good year to have a light home slate.
