Not surprised ESPN is making every excuse for KeNITucky

Just not understanding how people think Cal is up there with the best coaches. Did anyone watch last year, the recruiting "rankings"? Wow!
I remember well, but they were really struggling to make the post season and were OFF the bubble even before Noel went down. Then, ousted in the first round of the NIT? I'm sure that had nothing to do with Cal, hah?

Sorry to disappoint you UK fans, but it's the truth. They were on the outside looking in. Now let's look at those skewed rankings, shall we?

Make excuses for Cal now. And then save it, cause you are wrong!

They were starting to play better right before Noel went down and I believe they lost their PG, too. Goodwin was moved to PG and that was not a good fit at least for that team. He's slimy but he can coach. Sometimes a team is dysfunctional beyond repair with attitudes, injuiries, etc.

He's a salesman. He's not a coach.

When it comes to player rankings in recruiting, I think we can all agree that the Harrison twins have been, and are, vastly overrated... my goodness, no positive impact on the game + horrible decision making. I actually think James Young is UK's second best player, I know it was a long shot for Syracuse when they were recruiting him... but could you imagine him at the 2 for the Orange?

You and me were watching the same game. All they were doing was launching up 3's, it was terrible. Thankfully for them they have Randle. And for the record I think MSU is good and not great.

Umm that wasn't an ethical/moral issue there college boy.

Didn't the current coach at Syracuse get sanctioned by the NCAA?

And lets get serious. Is Cal a good person? No. Is he a good coach? Yes.

Anyone who doesn't think he is a good coach is just full of sour grapes b/c of how shady he is.

Cal has had 2 final 4's taken away at different schools. I agree with everything you said except the good coach part.

Sounds like you are making excuses for that on paper talent. They were still outside the bubble, and I remember it well.

Cal is an elite recruiter (ethical or no) that ends up with way to much turnover year to year. He'll have years where they are elite NC contenders and others that just fall apart in the NIT.

There will be to much inconsistency to prove his coaching credentials one way or another - he'll be forever a by-product of his players talent - not his.

Would you consider recruiting an aspect of coaching?

And there's the real truth.
Good salesman does not necessarily equate to good coach. And I'm not saying good salesman can't be a good coach...just not in this case.
Sometimes I feel we are apart of the BBN.

But didn't he buy those teams to the Final 4?
Fixed, which means the answer is yes.
Oh, and let me guess, he must have had nothing to do with UMass and Memphis recruiting, right?
Can't believe you guys stick up for this dirt.

I think they could have a pretty hard time with Lville's press so long as Lville can keep from fouling. Florida may also give them trouble in this regard although in the half court if they can get the ball to Randle he will cause issues for any team IMO.

Um but he cheated his way in.

He still coached the team to them. Separate the two. He is a dirty recruiter, but he coaches his system well.

He gets a bunch of me-first high school players to buy in and then jump to the NBA.

Would I want Cal coaching my team? No. Do I think he is a good coach? Yes.

You can be a scumbag and be a good coach. The problem is when you are a scumbag and not a good coach (read: Lane Kiffin)

Well said. As a USC alum, Kiffin makes my blood boil. Terrible coach.

It is so weird too b/c I thought Monte was a truly class act from all the 3rd hand stuff I had heard/read.

Then his son is the epitome of douchebag.

How he got the USC job after doing what he did at Tennessee, I will never understand.

I think the game passed old man Kiffin by. He really struggled at USC and now look at the DAL D. Oy.

Tim, crapipari cannot be considered a good coach because he doesn't play on an equal playing field. You can go right ahead and tell me how great he is but IMO he's not a good coach.

Equal playing field? This sounds a lot like the argument for why JB isn't a good coach (b/c good coaches don't run zone primarily - hence, not equal playing field). The idea of equal playing field is comical to me as well b/c there is no such thing in collegiate athletics.

I don't want to mention anymore on this b/c talking this much about Calipari is bad for me and have said what needed to be said. Scumbags can be good coaches.
