Not the reason we lost, but Michael Stephens

Horrible. Did it seem like he made most of the egregious calls. The charges that were blocks, the guy who fell on Marek gets a jump ball, late whistles because he waiting for a cue from K, etc

... late whistles because he waiting for a cue from K, etc

This could've applied to a few, I guess, but one late whistle that jumped out was when Girard leaned on the ball handler, at least a full second passed with no whistle, and then Hughes came in to try for the steal and the ref decided maybe it was worth calling a foul after all.

Stephens is horrible. Though I do think the worst call of the night was the undercut by Hughes that got called a charge in Syracuse's favor. (Guerrier getting his face ripped off with no call was a close second.)

The Guerrier takedown no-call by far upset me the most.
So many bad calls, or lack thereof this season sometimes make it hard to enjoy watching games.

But it was nice to see them make up for it in the very same spot on the floor in the second half, when Guerrier appeared to touch no one while grabbing a rebound and getting called for a foul.

Officiating was bad. Allowed Duke's bigs to do whatever they wanted down low. Then called ticky tack fouls against our guys.

Sidibe is atrocious and Dolezaj is not a center - didn't help. But thought officiating at the end of the first half was really bad and helped Duke's run.

duke's entire front line was in foul trouble early in the first half. you all do realize that we took more foul shots and they had more fouls (25/29) called against them even though we trailed and were hacking intentionally the last couple minutes ? the woofing tech call on carey was probably retaliation to the same woof guerrier did after his dunk 1st half. they rarely call that . the much discussed clothesline was probably offset by marek's elbow swing to the face which we all know from experience is a flagrant foul even if unintentional . instead he shoots. don't blame the officials for this one. they were tougher on duke than us imo . as stated above the difference being duke's depth allowed them to absorb the foul trouble and sub in . they lost 3 and we lost 2 and had 3 guys with 4 . imagine if the fouls were even ? try putting just 4 more fouls on the cuse and who is left to play ? difference in this game was duke's superior depth. not the officials. whatever.

either you didn’t read the op or you didn’t comprehend it. Sad

Thread title is "Not the reason we lost, but."

really and yet (other than my post) it reads like exactly the numerous other threads already today complaining about how the officials screwed us last night. huh .

Nowhere in this thread did it say that. Read.

It’s silly that we even have to make the disclaimer “not the reason we lost” just to criticize the refs around here. And yet even in a thread with that very title the trolls come out. Where does this idea that you can’t just straight up call out a ref come from? Is it guilt? Is it some meathead pull yourselves up by the bootstraps mentality?

Wild speculation about a 19 year old‘s personal life ok. Criticizing an incompetent official based on overwhelming evidence, not ok.

Won’t stop me though. Even in some games we‘ve won the officiating has been so poor that some think it is corrupt, many think it is biased, and most think it is incompetent at best. But don’t you dare even suggest that it had any effect on the outcome of the game or it’s “sour grapes”.

When we were in the Big East we would get the occasional home game where we were the benefactor of calls. That absolutely never happens anymore. Do the refs hate Jimmys incessant whining ? Whatever it is, ACC referees are garbage and absolutely biased

Amen, Joseph.

Well said.

I can not disagree with any of this but what really hurts us we have a total of 3 bigs and they played at least 6. K is very adept in moving his bigs in and out, avoiding payback calls, and keeping them rested and fresh. Plus he has the bench and we don't. Dolezaj and Sidibe are the cards we were dealt with Quincy as a freshman backup just learning. That is far as it goes in tight games. We well know what happens when we have to go to Edwards at crunch time. Hopefully Edwards will have another year under his belt, Bol Ajak will be with us and possibly a recruit for next year will bolster our bench.
