They treat us like a hookup that they will never introduce to their friends, much less their parents, and then get mad when we don't buy into their BS? lol at Notre Dame.Where is this money they gave us? Is it in the room with us right now?
"I don't have the ND hate that a lot of people have. Probably because I am more of a football traditionalist and admire their history."I don't have the ND hate that a lot of people have. Probably because I am more of a football traditionalist and admire their history. I think that if ND & Miami had a play-in game, ND would win this time.
That said, the ND AD's comments reek of entitlement. How can you justify putting in ND over Miami when ND lost head to head? While ND is looking really good right now, they lost to the 2 best teams on their schedule. The rest of their schedule was weak sauce (besides maybe USC).
The lesson the AD's are getting out of all of this is: Limit scheduling heavyweights out of conference and definitely do not do that at the beginning of the season. I think the days of having some exciting out of conference match-ups the fist week or two of the season is coming to an end. Sadly, that means more boring cream-puff games.
ND chooses to accept the risk they take being independent…They’re making me like sec teams more.
I’m pretty sure the big 12 commish is from upstate ny.Syracuse is never getting a B10 invite. If and when the Acc implode (I do believe it will) SUs best shot is a B12 invite as their Commissioner desperately wants a NE wing/corridor for the conference.
Re: Scheduling. Supposedly, the primary driver in working out the ACC deal was that they were having increasing difficulty in scheduling late season games. Everybody is willing to play them in September; they're guaranteed a game against USC or Stanford in October; and they have the other California team to end the season. That's 6 games. What about the other 6? We played them last season in SB on Nov 16.Notre Dame isn't in the ACC (or any football conference) primarily due to money and autonomy, thanks to its lucrative, long-standing exclusive TV deal with NBC, allowing them to keep all revenue instead of sharing it, plus retaining control over their national schedule and avoiding mandatory conference championship games, making independence more profitable and flexible than joining.
Key Reasons for Independence:
The ACC & Potential Joining:
- The NBC Deal (Money):
- Exclusive Revenue: Since 1991, Notre Dame has had a deal with NBC for all home football games, keeping the substantial revenue instead of splitting it with a conference.
- Generational Wealth: This deal provides immense financial security, with recent extensions through 2029, giving them a massive advantage over conference members who share payouts.
- Autonomy & Control (Flexibility):
- Scheduling Freedom: Independence allows Notre Dame to maintain classic rivalries (USC, Stanford, Navy) and schedule high-profile games nationally, something difficult within a conference.
- No Conference Games: They avoid playing extra, conference-mandated games (like a conference championship) and keep all CFP/bowl money directly.
- Brand Power:
- Notre Dame is a massive national brand; they don't need a conference for exposure or revenue, as the money flows to them directly through NBC.
In short, Notre Dame has found that being independent in football, fueled by their NBC deal, offers more financial upside and strategic freedom than joining a conference like the ACC.
- While the ACC offers some benefits (like access to conference revenue and playoff spots), Notre Dame's unique setup with NBC and their desire for schedule control outweighs joining for most fans and university decision-makers. They've even negotiated for partial ACC membership for other sports, but football remains independent.
Someone once told me ND is Americas Team - Bulls***!
Yes. Scheduled for noon Eastern. The press conference where they announce they are leaving the ACC is coming up in 30 minutes right?
Where is this money they gave us? Is it in the room with us right now?
Yes. Scheduled for noon Eastern.
For readers who don't know. Here are 2 quotes from a Post-Standard article from 2018 about the game --"I don't have the ND hate that a lot of people have. Probably because I am more of a football traditionalist and admire their history."
If you're a Syracuse fan read up on the history of the 1961 Syracuse-Notre Dame game and how they literally stole the game from us and refused to acknowledge that we won after they said that they would.
ND is preparing the ay to get out off its ACC deal, all of it, to join BT. That is why we have the AD going public to accuse the ACC of harming ND, which has done irreparable damge to the relationship.ND played 6 ACC teams this season: SU, Miami, NC State, BC, Pitt, Stanford.
For the math challenged, that’s a whole 2 games fewer than every ACC team played ACC opponents.
ND also played Arkansas, Boise State and Purdue this season. Any 2 of those 3 games could have been ACC teams. It’s not like ND needs to appeal to alums in Little Rock or Idaho.
ND will remain an “independent”. Even more so given the concession the CFP gave them starting next season. But it’s just so silly since they already are 75% an ACC member.
I hope the ghost of Gerry Faust possesses Marcus Freeman and they go 6-6 from 2026 until the end of time.
The BT Wet Dream is: get ND and then form a new Top Tier. It will have a 16 team playoff. Get SEC to agree that both of them get 6 auto bids. Anybody else can split the other 4 slots. This is entirely why the B1G wants to expand the playoffs to 16 and guarantee 6+ spots for their member schools.
What's Belichick's girlfriend up to lately?ND is preparing the ay to get out off its ACC deal, all of it, to join BT. That is why we have the AD going public to accuse the ACC of harming ND, which has done irreparable damge to the relationship.
ND people have realized that the SEC and BT are working together to create a new top tier. And both leagues will be hoary to have that new Top Tier be obey those 2 leagues, after each has added all the ACC schools its wants and can get. So ND is ready to start now cutting all ties to the ACC to get into BT with a snap of the finger.
But that Top Tier can have top to 4 leagues, and certainly should have at least 3. I think SEC and BT want to destroy the ACC, take the ACC schools they want, and then they will 'generously' allow the Big 12 to be in the new Top Tier.
But the ACC could act aggressively and save itself by increasing its TV value a decent amount. That would require starting by cutting dead weight in terms of TV value. Wake has 0 value, and BC not much more than Wake. What the ACC needs much more of is larger state schools located in, or very near to, states with major production of football talent, as well as proven large TV audiences for CFB. Texas Tech, Arizona, and ASU are desperately needed by the ACC. Utah, Cincy, and WVU could all be quite helpful to increasing ACC TV numbers and making its football tougher from top to bottom with more red hot rivalries based on dislike and hate.
If that was their dream, they wouldn't have been pursuing a PE backed investment plan that would have limited their ability to jettison underperforming schools. I don't think some of these folks are as strategic and long-term thinking as fans think they are.The BT Wet Dream is: get ND and then form a new Top Tier. It will have a 16 team playoff. Get SEC to agree that both of them get 6 auto bids. Anybody else can split the other 4 slots.
The SEC is not going to agree to having the same number as BT. It will want to limit auto bids, assuming that in most years, it will deserve 2 or even 3, at times 4, more teams in a 16 team playoff than the BT deserves. And the SEC his right about that.
The things that all gold diggers from the far northeast are up to this time of year. What's Belichick's girlfriend up to lately?
They do not want to jettison their own 'under-performing schools.' They want to destroy all other leagues that can be destroyed as competitors, while also praising themselves for their generosity in saving the likes of Northwestern and Rutgers. If that was their dream, they wouldn't have been pursuing a PE backed investment plan that would have limited their ability to jettison underperforming schools. I don't think some of these folks are as strategic and long-term thinking as fans think they are.
