So, can we now unretire #44 and offer it to a big time RB knowing that it will sell a lot of jerseys?
Wasnt Robert Washington talking about wanting to wear it?does it matter to the recruits is the issue at this point. i frankly don't think it moves the needle and that's why it hasn't come out of hibernation.
the jersey really should be given to a senior RB who has excelled at the school on and off the field and should be a surprise on the first game at home. It would become an anticipation thing which would get us some national press.
Of course that assumes you have a senior RB who has been a great student athlete. Maybe they've tossed this idea around and no one has lived up to that so far. time will tell
This argument used to work before NIL. If a kid was a true stud, wearing that number - Cuse fans would buy stuff jerseys and other stuff with it.does it matter to the recruits is the issue at this point. i frankly don't think it moves the needle and that's why it hasn't come out of hibernation.

People wanted to give it to him some would commit. Not sure it was his idea.Wasnt Robert Washington talking about wanting to wear it?

Sure everything changed 24 hours ago financially. I am talking about pre NIL. We haven't gotten anyone to come on the premise of 44 since it was taken out for usage again. Before July 1, didn't seem to matter much.
If a kid does a little homework and thinks that jersey will sell, and he'll profit off it, well that's a new ballgame.
It hasn’t seemed to matter much because we have not been nearly a good enough program to contend for true blue chip running backs. So we’ve not bothered.
The whole argument that no one cares about 44 anymore is absurd.
Guys my age are still making custom 44 jerseys for games and tailgates. People know what it is.
Now that NIL is in place, we finally have an ace in our hand.
I wanted a custom 69 jersey.
Couldn't get one.
This is my point. It become giving a top recruit a paycheck. The number 44 jersey sells regardless of whose name is on it. But, you throw that kid's name on the back for 4 years and it is like handing the kid cash, legally. Before July 1, didn't seem to matter much.

I tend to agree. But, it may be THE difference maker in getting a top level running back. And, eventually the LEGEND of 44 will return.Yeah a 44 with the kids name on it, is going to sell like crazy and that kid is going to make a TON of money.
but I think the player really needs to earn it. Be very selective in it. Might go years without having it, or have kids get it back to back.
could be an awesome opportunity for the university and for the student athlete
Stigma?I tend to agree. But, it may be THE difference maker in getting a top level running back. And, eventually the stigma of 44 will return.
Ah yeah, wrong word there. I am going to change it. Thanks.Stigma?
