O-Line Preview (Post-Standard)

Hoping Reed can pick it up fast. He has to win the battles in practice/scrimmages. Grade out better and you will get the job. Can’t rotate centers in meaningful games. The position has many duties that determines how the unit functions. Consistency is important.
The false starts and procedure penalties have to be on the center.

Surprised Emily thinks Ilaoa is the clear starter at center.

Josh has a huge advantage in experience at Syracuse but IMHO, at the least, Reed will give him a major battle for the starting job.

Maybe she knows something I don't know...
If this is anything like the article about the RBs recently, then maybe she only looked at the spring roster/depth chart and didn't bother looking at incoming players who might be available in the fall.

Most of the time. Yes but it’s not always on them. Depends on the system that team has. The false movement can be caused by the QB verbal/non verbal calls. The process of snapping the ball isn’t always the same. It can vary based on the situation, like tempo, redzone, 4 min offense, help neutralize an elite pass rusher etc….

You've forgotten More.
I touched on him. I’m not sure why anyone thinks he should/will be a contributor here.

As someone else pointed out, he was 4th in pass blocking out of the 5 starting OL at Richmond last year according to PFF. And his run blocking was 5th out of the 5 starters. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think he’s anywhere capable of competing in the ACC.

If this is the case, why would we bring him in? Surely there’s another body out there? I don’t know, the coaches must see something. Then again, they’ve been very wrong in the past. O line has been Babers biggest weakness and that says a lot.

He was a four year starter at Richmond too, so maybe there’s more to it than PFF stats. We’ll see.

No expert on Richmond football but if you find all conference teams relevant, Joe might not be as bad as some think.

He was second team all conference in the CAA In 2022.
