Offense, specifically shooting, is a major issue

I get the point you're making, but I don't entirely buy it.

It's not like we've been sharpshooters from 3 prior to this game.

4-21 (19%)
8-21 (38%)
7-19 (37%)
7-17 (41%)
8-31 (26%)
7-30 (23%)

41-139 (29%)

We were only shooting 33% before we got to Vegas.

29% means we're ranking around 300th in college ball. 33% would be around 190th.

I think it's more likely that we've just been a horrific shooting team, and the lack of rest today didn't help. I don't think that's the cause.
Yet you ignored the part I mentioned about Kansas getting to sit and watch us play and gameplan us. They took away the paint and gave us the looks. We got out scheme for sure but we outschemed Houston yesterday too.

What team wouldn't give us outside looks at this point? We can't shoot.

When we're not scoring, players naturally start to hunt shots to try to get the team going. It's their competitive nature.

What they really need to do when shots are not falling is run more back picks, more movement through the lane by the guys without the ball, to make the defense move and react. That 's what creates open shooters.
That’s my biggest frustration. We don’t adjust.

Hard to win if you can't make shots.

Houston we couldn't make a free throw or three to get over the hump and win.

Kansas we couldn't make a bucket and it's wild having so many empty possessions when we only turned the ball over a handful of times.

We're innovating new ways to lose in Las Vegas.

It’s also a big issue when your slashing guard can’t draw fouls because he can’t hit a free throw. It changes his game for the worse. He needs to sit until he fixes the ft situation. No doubt that impacts other parts of his game too.

I’m telling you what the real problem was. Just cuz you want to armchair quarterback it like it’s your fantasy league doesn’t make it right.
I just hate the “woe is Syracuse” attitude. Kansas played yesterday same as Syracuse, they had to play defense, they had to compete and they performed far better. Simple as that. If 4 hours rest is the difference then we have bigger problems

Now it’s on Autry to coach them up
did you say red ? this is vegas ...

Nailed it. Slashing without finishing simply becomes a turnover.

I was someone who wanted JJ back this season. He has strengths and surrounded by the right cast he could be a positive for the team. However, now that he can't shoot FTs he's really close to being a complete liability.

He's a poor 3 point shooter and a subpar defender. His skill is getting to the basket and scoring. Needless to say, his skill is very inefficient. But still, that's a necessary skill for a team.

If he's not hitting FTs at a ~70% clip though, then he really is a net negative and shouldn't be getting more than 14-16 minutes a game, and not playing late.

Precisely. You’re left with a wildly inefficient player by any metric.

I kept seeing us bringing Kyle up to set a pick and we’d either launch a 3 with no one underneath to rebound or someone would drive in to the lane and had to make a tough floater that got blocked. But again, no one was down low to rebound. And yes, if they got fouled, we can’t make a free throw.

I want to see us get it in the paint to Kyle and let the defense collapse and then kick it out for the open perimeter shot.

On paper, we shouldn't be nearly this bad. Reverting to the mean would suggest that shots will begin to fall. But they can't abandon taking the ball inside, even if they aren't making the foul shots. Eventually they will be at 60-65%, not this 30-40% horror show. And you foul out the opponent's interior defenders doing that.

Red let his bench players shoot a combined 6-25 without giving them the hook. That was the game.

We have a big problem at shooting guard right now.

We needed offense against Kansas (and Houston).
And without Donnie, that's who he chose who to play.
Zephir and Cheffy weren't what we needed.
Soare haș to play to give us some size to rest Kyle and protect him from fouls.

He played everybody else - 7 guys - (except Soare) 20-30 minutes.
Everybody was given a chance to contribute.
No problem with that.

Sadiq can be better; go to the hoop, not away.
Kingz needs to keep driving and keep running the break until his shot starts to fall from outside. His defense has been great.

George is good in spurts, but has to be more consistent, and hit more outside shots. He needs to feed the post more, throw the ball up in the air toward the rim off of those picks. Feed the leapers we have on this team.

I think JJ did was he was supposed to do, except not make a single shot inside the 3 point line on his many drives. I mean, come on, finish on a few of them, please!

Betsey tried not to be one-dimensional, and eventually did get some threes. But the lane was packed in, and there wasn't a lot of room for him to operate.

Kiyan needs to dial it down and be a facilitator. Be a sidekick for a while. Stop taking bad shots. I was hoping this wouldn't happen, but it has, and he needs to get back into his lane.

I don't blame him too much, but young man, if you can't make a foul shot, your game don't work.

Too much 1 pass and launch
Too much no pass and launch
Too much iso and launch

We have no discipline on offense.
We have no teamwork on offense.
Even with Freeman, we don't work the post/mid-post enough
Players think once they get the ball, they have to shot (White and Anthony do this alot for example)

X and O's is vanilla just high pick and roll or mid post iso same stuff we have been running for decades.

point guards first job is reading the defense and looking for advantages. last resort is shooting.
(unless of course you hold the best advantage)

We have a center who basically can’t be on the court in the last few minutes of a game because hacking him is essentially a turnover for us and a steal for the other team. I think at best he shoots about 30% from the line this year

Getting to the line is somehow a negative for this team
