Defensive SRS
These are the non factories in the top 20
Troy (D)
Duke (D)
Air Force (O)
Rutgers (special teams)
Utah (D)

Offensive SRS
These are the non factories in the top 20
Utah St (D)
Oregon St (O)
Washington St (D - young air raid OC)
App St (O)
Liberty (O)
UNLV (D)
Memphis (O)
North Texas (O air raid)
GT (O)

You're more likely to be top 20 on offense than defense if you're not a factory.

The odds are better hiring an offensive guy.

We hired an offensive guy and have had pretty good defenses and terrible offense. It doesn’t matter. Just hire the right guy in general.
Exactly the point I made in the other thread ... but we can't hire a defensive guy because he has cooties apparently. North Texas is 3-5 ... yeah that's the hill I want to die on instead of being 6-3 Duke with a win over Clemson. I am so glad our fanbase isn't selecting our coach.

Washington State has lost 4 in a row now that they are into conf play ... woohooo Air Raid baby 44-6 beating by Arizona of all teams. Even Chip Kelly has built a great D ... how is his O looking? I'll answer that too ... mediocre. Too bad those D guys like Dan Lanning can't have a good O to pair with that D ... oh wait never mind

Did you know every team listed in top defensive SRS is above .500? Meanwhile North Texas, Utah St, Wash St, App St and GT are either stuck at .500 or worse ... Utah, Duke and AF have been ranked on the defensive side. Only Oregon State & Washington State on the offensive side ... further solidifies my argument.

Which is why I beg people to try to look outside of Syracuse.

I think it's much harder for non factories to be really good on defense than really good on offense. So spend the money where it can make a difference and look at comparables

You have discovered the secret. Syracuse should be a factory. So hire like a factory and there you go

Yeah because the top defenses you listed are all elite teams ... you got me there. I am not sure if you just move goal posts because it's a defense mechanism or just blinded by the need to run a gimmick offense. Can't tell but your lack of formulating a response to the topic at hand is rather comical.

The second list is bigger than the first.

Gimmick! Drink

I worked with the list you gave but point still stands all those teams with better D are all above .500 the offensive teams not so much. Point stands.

What’s even funnier is you’re an anti D head coach but yet 1 of your two examples of air raid has a defensive minded head coach. So why rule out hiring a defensive guy if he is a good CEO?

I'm not ruling that out. It might be the best option. But there aren't many defensive coaches that are willing to do that.

If they are the right coach they let the OC run what he is comfortable with. That is what a good CEO does ... and that should be part of the selection criteria ... who are you bringing with you? I often wonder if that is Dino's issue, putting his hand on things ... he has been the one constant in all this.
