You do realize Murphy kicked a 49 yarder from the right hash last year right? You also realize Shafer just faced a 3rd and inches and 4th and inches and his OL got destroyed twice in a row. You only go for it if you have any confidence you can convert. At some point you have to get points, and Shafer decided to try and get them there. Also if you can't trust your kicker might as well not let him kick.

Clearly he didn't, hopefully we don't end up chasing points later in the game that we gave away early with the fumble, missed FG and failed attempt to get into the end zone.

That's not as much the fault of the OLine as it is lining up in the shotgun on 3rd down from the 1/2 yard line with the defense bringing everyone. Shouldn't have influenced the decision to kick a FG because the playcalling sucked and theoretically that could have been fixed on the 4th and 1

All that matters in Shafers mind is that his OL couldn't sustain a block on either play. That absolutely influenced his decision making
