Ok I will come out and say it

I'm watching the Stanford upset over USC from 2007 right now on Pac12 channel. Stanford were 42 point dogs. We won't be 42 point dogs
Trivia Question:

Who was the defensive coordinator of that upstart Stanford team that shocked the world and pulled off a huge upset over an undefeated and #1 rated USC team in 2007?

I think there is a better than fifty percent chance we not only hang with USC I think we actually beat them. I think this is Doug Marrone's Nebraska.

I think our defense will be ranked in the top ten in the country at the end of the year despite the schedule we have. I think Ryan Nassib becomes a top twenty QB in the country by years end. I think our overall offense moves to about a 60 ranked offense or so by years end.

I think with a kicker who can reach the end zone on kickoffs and a special team that is not made up of players who should actually be redshirted I think our special teams at least moves to the respectable category this year. Perhaps even running a kickoff or punt return back and perhaps blocking a punt or two.

I think if we combine all of the best from above for a one day event in the meadowlands I think we actually beat USC.

Don, did you use to play football for Michigan...say around...oh...2007?

Lol. In all seriousness, although the likelihood of us actually winning the game isn't all that great, if I'm being true to my gut that we've turned the corner and we are now a Top 40 type team, I don't see any reason that we can't give them a bit of a game for a while. Similar to how we played them out at the Coliseum last year (final score notwithstanding). We'll know more 9/1 at about 3:30ish.

we have that whole "west coast teams do not come to the east coast and win day games" thing that seems to always be true in the NFL going for us!

I've believed for awhile that recruiting -- while we had a big hole to dig out of since the attrition when Doug took over -- has really been strong under the new coaching staff, and that once the foundation gets established, at some point things are going to just pop. I really, really, really wish we had a more dependable OL situation, because we might see that come to fruition this year. We still might--but I feel like we're maybe a year away from that happening.

CIL posted the other day about his conversation with a 'Cuse insider, who felt that the current [class of 2012] recruiting class will be the one that sees the program vault back into the top 25. Word up.

I have the same general feeling as you that eventually we are headed for a "turned corner". I think we just disagree (or do we?) on when that corner will be turned. I feel strongly that its this year due to our new found depth in basically all positions. We've clearly fell apart at the end of all 3 of Dougie's 3 seasons (only 2 wins in Nov combined) but my belief is that was due to the depth issues. I think we finish strong this year because of that depth. The biggest hurdle to that, in my mind atleast, is clearly the OL but assuming they stay relatively healthy and Pugh eventually returns, I think we see a stronger finish and a 7 win team despite the relatively tough schedule.

Slogan: "Schaefer is the one beer to have, when you're having more than one"
I don't think it would be endorsed by MADD today.

I left the "c" out intentionally. I thought SS had an odd spelling to his name but was too lazy to look it up.

And the beer, btw, was hideous. At least that's what I remember from my HS days.

This is what I love about August. The weather is warm and so are the dreams.

the usc game is on my birthday and a win would be one hell of a birthday present

with that said..if we beat usc.. ill do a naked lap around the dome

I don't see how punishing the rest of us makes any sense...

I don't think that they'll even come close this year, but here are USC Losses for the past 5 years:

2011 - Arizona State, Stanford
2010 - Washington, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State, and Notre Dame
2009 - Washington, Stanford, Oregon, Arizona
2008 - Oregon State
2007 - Stanford, Oregon

Each year they've lost to at least 1 unranked team... it's not like they are totally invincible and never lose to anyone beyond elite teams.

Please don't.

I dont usually make predictions on specific games but when I do, I have an almost sterling 100 percent record.
My first outstanding pick was Kansas City over Minnesota in Super bowl 4.
My latest wizardly pick was the Giants as superbowl champs when they were 7 and 7 and taking several peoples money in the process.

so stay thirsty my friends for when I make a almost impossible sounding pick my track records indicates it is one of the most interesting picks in the world.

I agree with don. USC has to travel across country and the following week is playing Stanford. Trap game material. Especially if they trounce Hawaii. There is a reason football is played on the field and not on paper.
