at least reportedly.

Here is Hackett’s resume:

2003 – Cal Davis
2003 – 2005 / Stanford
2006 – 2007 / Tampa Bay
2008 – 2009 / Buffalo

People have guessed Van Pelt.

Who else is in this coaching tree?

Jon Gruden :).
Bob Casullo also coached with Tampa Bay during that time IIRC. I hope HCSS is not giving the OC job to Casullo.

And they have to run a specific type of offense.

Cubit

Stanford (OC) 2003-2004
Western Michigan 2005-2012

Ding ding ding. And guess what, Bill Cubit was with Shafer at Western Michigan.

Cubit reportedly accepted the OC job at Illinois 4 days ago though.

Discuss.

Oh and Cubit ran a prolific offense at Western Michigan.

Western Michigan was often among the MAC's offensive leaders in points and total offense during Cubit's tenure. The Broncos ranked 18th in the country in points (35.3) and 19th in total offense (458.5 yards per game) in 2011. Western Michigan averaged 29 points a game during Cubit's eight years.

And his son was a QB, Assistant QB coaxh at WMU. Twofer?

So can he just ditch Illinois? How does that work?

The Marrone rumors started more than 4 days ago. If it was even a possibility then that Shafer would replace Doug and seek to hire Cubit, why would he take the Illinois job? Why not wait a few days before going to Illinois?

umm, this is simple.

Well there is nothing on the Illini site about Cubit being hired. The following is from an article on 1/6/13 out of the local paper.

KALAMAZOO, MI — Former Western Michigan University football coach Bill Cubit is expected to be named the University of Illinois offensive coordinator.

Multiple sources have told MLive/Kalamazoo Gazette that the 59-year-old Cubit will join head coach Tim Beckman's staff in Champaign, Ill., after serving as WMU's head coach for the previous eight seasons.
The sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal is not yet finalized.

Who knows.

yep - I said reportedly because that was the rumor but there's been nothing official. And it's plausible this didn't happen because he started talking to Syracuse.

If we get him, a good thing would be that at his age, he's probably not running anywhere else.

And of course Morrison and Daoust. WMU comes to SU.

What's a "Cubit?"

Didn't the basketball team have a player named Cubit? Mark was his first name...I think. Back around 1980 maybe...

From wiki:

On December 13, 2012, Cubit was publicly named as one of three finalists for the head coaching position at Western Illinois University, a FCS program in Macomb, Illinois. On December 17, 2012, Western Illinois publicly acknowledged that Cubit had voluntarily withdrawn his name from consideration.

On January 7, 2013, ESPN.com Chicago reported that Cubit had accepted the job as offensive coordinator at the University of Illinois, replacing Chris Beatty.

Would he spurn 2 schools in a month?
