OK, What are the Best Restaurants in Syracuse these Days?

(Sorry)

Really? Hmmm...been there once and everyone enjoyed their meals but a small sample study I admit. No need to apologize for how you feel and actually appreciate the feedback to be honest, curious as to why.

Ima gonna give everyone who posted in this thread a like (if I didn't give them one already). Except for Mr. "Buffalo has the best food". He gets nada.;)

OttointheGrotto would get two likes for his Sbarro's post if I could...

This thread is the BEST !

Rosalie's was started by Phil Romano of Fuddruckers fame in honor of his sister Rosalie (my former neighbor growing up). One of many great spots to eat in Skaneateles. I'd also recommend Krebs

Yep, and its success spawned Romano's Macaroni Grill. I believe Phil created Rosalie's more on a lark to honor his sister rather than creating another successful national franchise. Guy just has the golden touch for restaurants.

Not sure if I saw this on the list, but I think Otro Cinco is one of my favorites. Plus they take reservations, which makes things a lot easier. Also a big fan of:

Kitty Hoynes (sneaky good food)
Francesca's as has been said
Lots of deserved love for Apizza, I also like Peppino's downtown for a quick woodfire pizza usually for lunch
Blue Tusk for great atmosphere/beer/sandwiches
Modern Malt is a fun place
A little outside of downtown, Chophouse on Waring is really good

Funny thing is Kitty Hoynes was on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I watch it a good bit and wasn't expecting that.

I haven't eaten at these places in awhile are they still good? The Brooklyn Pickle. Empire brewing. Didn't see them mentioned.

To be fair, same sample size for me: one trip. Thought the mole was unusual (to be kind) and the whole meal was short on flavor and pretty overpriced. Space was pretty, though.

Ruston’s Diner!

Best breakfast in town unless anyone cares to argue to the death?

I hear good things. But here's my perpetual diner question:

Do they serve lunch food at breakfast time?

Lot of good diners out there, but not everyone permits this and I like variety and don't want to be hemmed in ordering from a half menu.

Perfectly fine places to go, just don't rise to the level of "Best" for me.

That’s a good question I’ll have to check. I always order breakfast.

I know some will snicker but I have to put a word in for a place down the street from me which is very underrated. Avicollis. Best chicken riggies around.
Heard they were moving into a second location in Fayetteville Square where Pascals used to be. Will definitely check it out once they open.

Brooklyn Pickle is still around and still a great choice for a top notch sandwich. I just think DiBella's is a little bit better. Brooklyn Pickle is opening their 3rd location soon in Liverpool. Look forward to checking it out when it opens.

Both favoriteS, love lee’s and darwins too

Lemongrass. Hands down best Restaurant in Syracuse. Me and my buddy have been going there for years before and after SU football games. Then a drink at Blue Tusk and life is great again.

Very comprehensive list there, an excellent job as always.

A few more to consider

Dosa Grill is a must if you like Indian Food. They have a few different iterations but the namesake and original in Dewitt is the place to go. They have a lunch buffet 7 days a week and every Monday night. Never had a bad meal. Highly recommend the lunch buffet.

Firudo in Dewitt is another great place - It's an Asian restaurant that also has an all you can eat option. You fill out your sheet and pick from a wide range of sushi, specialty rolls, hand rolls, negiri, noodle dishes and other japanese style appetizers. Price is very reasonable and its impossible not to leave full beyond belief.

CuseRegular mentioned it previously but Eva's is a must stop. The best polish food in town by far. A great restaurant in an old house in Solvay. Kinda weird hours though so look it up before venturing over. The perogies and the Glumpki things are amazing.

I think someone also mentioned Rosalies in Skaneateles, can't recommend this place enough. I am not a huge Italian food guy but this is place is a homerun. One of the best meals I have ever had.

Darwins - Great sandwich place, I think there still only open during the week but highly recommended. They have some stuff you don't normally see for there sandwiches and other offerings, and they use both pastas stretch bread and Dilaurios.

Cider Mill as OM noted is a great place. Summer menu wasn't as good as the fall/winter but food is outstanding and a great craft beer list.

Erawan Thai on Erie Blvd is a great under the radar place. It can be a little pricey but the food is great, my wife loves this place. Wide ranging menu as well, highly recomend.

In college I dated a waitress from Eva’s. I’d pick her up and they’d make sure I left full anytime I’d go in.

Great people.

I do not know if already mentioned, but for Steak lovers Delmonicos 24 ounce rib eye is pretty good, add the fried portabella mushrooms and Utica greens to top off a really top notch dinner.

JDS, you're killing me! My local colleagues took care of that with SEVEN PAGES of responses. Did you read through the rest of the thread?

I did. But half the responses were littered with pizza, diners, sub shops, fish and chip places, and regional chains. I value your opinion and know you love the area. Give me six good “restaurants.”

For reference, I think Grimaldi’s is a 7 out of 10, Scotch and Sirloin gets my business occasionally for the bourbon list and adequate steak, and I enjoy Santangelos. I won’t touch CNY seafood as I live 4 minutes from the ocean and am spoiled. As an aside, Dino bbq is the most overrated bbq joint in America. And whoever said twins trees has good pizza is correct.
