Depends. Scheme plays a lot into it. Some guys are just better at different things. Zone blocking vs man blocking concepts, he could be better at handling quickness compared to power since he is only 295lbs. I haven't watched the film yet to come up with my own thoughts on him as a player yet though. How could he simultaneously be one of the best pass blockers in the ACC but also grade out as one of the worst run blockers?
It's like not being an ambiturner would be my guess. How could he simultaneously be one of the best pass blockers in the ACC but also grade out as one of the worst run blockers?
Finally some meat
Makes a ton of sense.Of course SU OL coach Dale Williams coached at Louisville before coming over to CNY so they have a pre-existing relationship.
Austin has played all three interior offensive line positions for Louisville. He split time at RG last year, and was projected to be the starting right guard for 2025. He was rated the best UL OL at pass protection.
I expect he will end up our starting center.
He's a huge pick up. Immediately becomes our top ranked OL unless I'm mistakenLooks like a solid pick up.
51 is a center number
Yes he has a centers body type![]()
Louisville OL Austin Collins Continuing to Take Advantage of Opportunities in Fall Camp
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville football program heads into their 2024 season with a very deep offensive line. Between the veteran returners they are bringingwww.si.com
Sounds like he might have been looking for an opportunity to play Center, and has spent a good amount of time working on that. At 6-3, that’s probably his best opportunity going forward.
I think the list is:We still need another OL, LB, DB and a kicker and maybe another DL.
I agree with your list, but why not try to improve every spot? Instead of a QB for just in case, someone to challenge for the starting spot?I think the list is:
OT (E Cruz replacement)
WR (T Peña replacement)
QB (M Johnson Jr replacement; someone with experience just in case)
LB (M Wax replacement; someone who can run with experience and toughness))
CB (C Lewis replacement; someone physically mature with experience)
PK (assuming Jackson Kennedy loses his appeal)
Don’t see us bringing Angeli in. We have a lot of needs and can’t afford top of the line merchandise across the board. Honestly, I think QB is relatively low on the list of these priorities.
Let’s see what happens.
$$$$I agree with your list, but why not try to improve every spot? Instead of a QB for just in case, someone to challenge for the starting spot?
Of course, money is a consideration, but disregarding money, I hope we NEVER settle for a sure backup when we can get a starter.$$$$
I don’t think we have the money to get say a top 5 player at every position of need.I agree with your list, but why not try to improve every spot? Instead of a QB for just in case, someone to challenge for the starting spot?
Absolutely, I totally agree. It's easy to spend other people's money. Sometimes I get caught up thinking Fran can get it done. Honestly, I still feel like he can.I don’t think we have the money to get say a top 5 player at every position of need.
You have to make priorities and spend more money on the areas with the biggest need.
I think the staff thinks we are covered at QB, at least from the perspective of the starter. They would like an experienced backup. At least it appears to be the case to me based on who we are going after.
Put another way, we can probably afford Angeli but then we have to get really low level players at all the other positions. They would be unlikely to help us right away and might never help us.
Spending all the money on one position, especially one we feel good about, is IMHO foolish. I think the staff knows what they are doing and a lot of people on the board, with all respect, are pretty clueless.
It’s also a matter of economics. Fran has already committed to Ricky at QB so bringing in somebody of his caliber or better would cost at least 500 KI agree with your list, but why not try to improve every spot? Instead of a QB for just in case, someone to challenge for the starting spot?
Can't argue with that, but if we can swing it, the QB competition may be worth the investment. It’s also a matter of economics. Fran has already committed to Ricky at QB so bringing in somebody of his caliber or better would cost at least 500 K
