OL Changes?

The 3rd and 10 sack of Shrader on his first drive had nothing to do with Tisdale. All Vet.

They've been the 2 weak links.

PFF must have missed that. But there’s a huge difference between Vets pass blocking grade and Tisdales. Vet is even a bit higher than Bleich whose strength is run blocking.

I wonder if some of the move is so that Servais can help call out the blocking assignments. I know typically it’s been a RB job, but Vet has struggled getting his coverage right.

I just figured I'd give him a break on one sack where he actually protected well, since there don't appear to be many. It's about 50 minutes into the broadcast.

It shouldn't have come that anyway because the previous play was a first down with the stupid flag for Berg not being at the line of scrimmage.

It should be noted that Tucker did nothing to help pick up the stunts over the center hole. I haven't been impressed with him in pass-pro I'm hoping he gets it soon.

He was also blown up on the intentional grounding. Forced Tommy to take a brief step to his right, which made it look enough like he was avoiding the sack. Tommy knew it was coming right at him, so he just threw it to where Queeley wasn't.

Tucker missed blocking assigments 4-5x in the game. But I also have to think when you know what the blocking is he might assume 3x2 wont lose so easily so he needs to worry about other things first like the end rusher or late blitz. we had issues 6x4 too many times where no one was physically beat and thats not good.. Hopefully film study and practice improves that

Vet was absolutely lost on the stunts rutgers was using. Isn't just a problems with physical ability. But he snaps pretty well.

looking at the whole team and not just OL, Tucker is our 2nd worst pass blocker after Tisdale.

But Vet, as noted in the Bailey article, was killing us on stunts, just couldn't pick them up.
Disagree. What often looks like the C's issue,is often the Gs. For 2 years, they've been exploiting either side of the G. There are times when our T's get inside because G is helping the C; and hasn't come off for the rest of his assignment. Folks then blame the T for missing an outside assignment. Same deal when the G is helping outside - blame the C.

Bleich seems to be handling his assignments well. If Dakota follows suit, the communication on the interior should improve, allowing the T to focus more on his "more often than not" outside assignment. Serv is quick to help when an assignment is missed. While it definitely lowered his grade at T, he's probably the quickest in recognizing when someone may not be able to completely fulfill their assignment.

G play has improved. Serv in the middle just helps assure that if an assignment might be missed/late he'll be the 1st to recognize which side. When G play is at a high level? I have no issue with serv/vett at either T or C. In a perfect world, I'd prefer Serv at T. If I wanted an insurance policy? Then I'd take him at C. Hopefully G play continues its improvement, and none of that stuff matters.

I don't know. There was a time or two Saturday that the DE stunts looped aound and up the center hole and Vet literally blocked no one. (and niether did Tucker.)

just put a hat one somebody. it's better than blocking air.

And it almost looked like Vet had a blind spot on at least two that I saw.

Yepp. And you'll notice 2 Gs doubled with The Ts. (4 guys on 2) AND they'll try to bring it from both sides. If both Gs stay put, the C has to pick up 2 guys. G's need to come off their doubles, and get back to the spot they vacated. Obviously, the C can pick one side up, but the Gs are supposed to come back. At least that's how I see it. Its more often the Gs being exploited. Bleich seemed to execute that fairly well.

I sincerely hope if they have indeed moved Vettorello to tackle, it is a marked improvement from the last time he played there. I do realize it was when he was a red shirt freshman but he was a turnstile who got consistently beat. I hate to be a negative guy but all this mixing and matching with the same people on the offensive line is not the answer.

My own opinion but I see Anthony Red on the sidelines and he doesn't look very big to me. So idk. Bradford passes the look test.

Not always about size...

I'd take Macky MacPherson blindfolded over every single offensive lineman on the squad.

Not to badmouth Vet, but here's the issue in my mind: I get why the coaches love him, because he's versatile and a pretty good athlete.

Problem is, he's not big and strong enough to anchor inside as one of the interior OL positions, and he isn't a good enough pass blocker to play OT.

He's like a swiss army knife who can play all five positions [on paper], but not play any of them well enough. I was hoping that as he progressed through his career, he'd get bigger / strong enough to handle the rigors of playing inside, but it doesn't look like that's the case. Of the 5, he seems to be the weak link.
Wonder if Ellis could move inside Davis, and Bleich, along side him would give us a lot of push inside.

By the way I sit in row B on the home side about the 20, and that is a huge man.
