Class of 2025 OL Rowan Byrne (NY) Portal from Clemson

We have had a couple real heartbreakers with that team...
2022 - Lost, 27-21 -- Playing the #5 team in the country on the road. Led the whole game. Offense lost its momentum in the 2nd half. Penalties killed us.

2021 - Lost, 17-14 -- Defense played lights out. Offense just couldn't do enough. That Clemson team wasn't very good in retrospect.

2020 - Did we even play football that season?

2019 - No contest. In front of packed Dome. Unbelievable buzz before the game. DeVito was outmatched.

2018 - Lost, 27-23 -- Once again, led most of the game on the road against a Top 5 team (#3). Penalties once again hurt us big time.

3 games we could have won, two over national championship-caliber teams.

2022 was the bigger let down for me. 6-0, healthily beat a top 15 Nc State team at home, should have beat a top 5 Clemson team on the road, and then the wheels came off.
When that game hit halftime & a 6-0 SU team was up on the road against #5, it might have been the best I had felt about Syracuse football since the late 90’s. It all went down hill from there…

When you think about it, it's pretty amazing how much had to go to right to even get us to that point considering our razor thin depth at some critical positions (QB for starters).

Yeah I don’t think under any scenario we’re going to land them all. We’re involved with some nice looking out of state OL prospects so I think we’ll do well there regardless.
And signing day isn't until after the season, so anything can happen until then.

I think what we need to do to stop this from happening is to beat the teams that steal our in state players head to head. Do that a couple times and suddenly the out of state school is not that enticing to play for any longer.

Let's get it done.
I agree, but unfortunately we don't get Clemson this year. Besides I don't believe Dabo wants to see us to often. They got away with a couple games a play here or there or a no roughing call and they may have gone home with a loss. (or two) Of all years, this would have been the one we all wanted us to play them. Would have been a great game.

We could still get them this year.

so many chances at great wins only to blow it at the end

2019, it was only 6-17 to start 4th. We turned over Clemson several times in the game and had the ball deep in their territory but came up empty each time. Clemson's depth in the 4th quarter wore us out and we lost big.

In the Portal.

In the Portal.

2 snaps. He’s a grizzled veteran

be nice to bring him home to NY state. I think he has a 3 or maybe even 4 years remaining?

This is the type of pick-up we need to be able to get. He's a NY kid that we have recruited previously. Has a touch of experience at a good school like Clemson just being developed, but still has likely 4 more years of eligibility. He has good size and athleticism. He probably would be a kid we further develop into a multiple year starting OT.

Just wanted to clarify that I certainly wouldn't expect him to be a difference maker in 2026 though. He is a redshirt freshman without game experience who was pushed aside at Clemson for 5 other 4* freshman OL they are bringing in. But just because he isn't ready yet for a Clemson squad after one true freshman season doesn't mean he couldn't still develop and be ready to contribute at SU in the future.

These the type of developmental portal picks we need since we can't just throw bags of money everywhere.
Bring him give him a good year of coaching and then maybe next year he can hit the two deep and it doesn't break the bank.

Yep, we need a bunch of starters, but a lot of those will be G6, use a few spots for kids like him
