Oline coach

That's logical but sadly, not how the coaching circle tends to work. Guys hook up with guys they previously coached with far too often, regardless of results. I hope we don't do that again but that's how we got Dale (Nixon connection). Addazio will likely push his son for the gig.
I thought guys were often found and interviewed at the annual coaching convention. Is that a relic of the past?

Is Addazio's kid any good.

This is where we should offer a Belichick-like scenario. We'll take the kid as an assistant to and heir apparent for the dad. Only in this case, we're only talking OL, and not HC. Perhaps we get dad to stay long enough to put in the playoffs.

I'm sure that happens too but the OL coaching circle is pretty tight and there are only so many D-1/P4 jobs.

Addazio's kid worked for him in Colorado but he's in the NFL right now on defensive side of the ball. No idea if he's any good.

Surely a long shot but if we hire new OL coach one of the first calls should be Phil Trautwein from Penn st.

One of most technical coaches out there and great recruiter. NJ native and Addazio disciple so some connections there. He would cost a fortune and would be a battle trying to get him since he’ll be in high demand but he would be a home run.

I don't see Fran as someone who is afraid to take a big swing.

Go for it. U need a stud line on both sides of ball.

Or even off tackle. Something other than straight ahead. I'm not down on him like some have been. With a meh oline, now no passing game to keep defenses honest, and an uninspired running scheme, he's still averaging over 4 ypc.

Yes those runs are all designed as interior runs, but there are times he doesn't see that he can bounce it and just runs into the OL.

Very well said. Agree totally. He’s a good back whose vision I hope improves. On this subject, I am very excited for the future of Tylik Hill who, in his limited action, has shown really good vision and ability to cut to open spaces on a dime.

Yes I like him too as he is a true zone runner. Willis is north south and is geared more for power blocking sweeps, traps, and counters.
He also would benefit in taking some handoffs when the QB is under center. It’s a lot harder to stop a back when they have the same 4 yard start that the linebackers do.

I get using the gun. But if you can’t really use your quarterback in the shotgun then need to think of other possibilities.

I see that with a lot of guys on a lot of teams though.

I wish we would run those. When Willis gets to the second level, he punishes defenders. Just gotta get him past the LOS.

we get so few runs where he gets to the LOS untouched you cant be upset with him. I do think the other kid is better suited to run behind this line with a bit more burst and better lateral quickness even if he is smaller.

All this talk about Willis shows that we either A) recruited a kid who doesn't fit the system or B Nixon can't tailor the system to fit the kid. He can have his crazy past happy offense but his run scheme sucks.

And all this crap about his pro style offense but his run scheme is not a pro style run scheme.

Bad blocking makes any scheme look bad

The built-in excuse. How do we know the line can't block well enough to run outside, when we don't ever do it. No pro offense runs repeatedly up the middle. Willis's best runs this season have been to the outside.

We might find out today. I think we might see more RPOs and stretch runs

I have liked him in limted action. I wouldn't necessarily make him a number one guy at this point, but I think I would give more of Nixon's carries to him.

If the oline could run block, there's no reason we couldn't have a poor man's thunder and lightning in the mold of USC's Bush and White.

Considering they ran a lot outside with a different OL might be a hint
