Oline coach

The built-in excuse. How do we know the line can't block well enough to run outside, when we don't ever do it. No pro offense runs repeatedly up the middle. Willis's best runs this season have been to the outside.
i just go by the fact that every play 3-4 of them miss the block.

So watching game i am disgusted with our oline literaly not going downhill to block and we cant blame it on rpo. Its actual bullsh. Our guys are not taught to move people, they are taught to side block but if u miss the guy is at ball carrier in .5 seconds. Block the damn guy man to man and move him. How dumb is this oline guy. What. Im pissed now cause this is stupid. I have H.S. coaching level know how and this is really bad. Any of our old oline guys please tell me whst Deleone would have said or did when he saw this crap.

Agree completely. New OC and new OL coach after the year at a bare minimum.

All this talk about Willis shows that we either A) recruited a kid who doesn't fit the system or B Nixon can't tailor the system to fit the kid. He can have his crazy past happy offense but his run scheme sucks.

And all this crap about his pro style offense but his run scheme is not a pro style run scheme.
Run scheme looked pretty damn good today.

I'm ok with Nixon if he realizes he needs to evolve. The pass offense is great. The run offense makes the RB room look bad despite having some talent there.

Nixon isn’t going anywhere unless there was a legit culture clash with Fran.
not should he, but let’s hope, with much better QB play next season, that we get a consistent ground game going. New OL coach and either Brown or a new name as DC are what I want to see.

A thought. The type of OC Fran should consider bringing in is an offensive minded fired head coach who was a good OC who needs a career rebound. It’s looking very possible that Mike Norvell doesn’t see another season as an FSU HC. If Fran can gel with him, maybe bring him in if he wants to continue coaching and especially if FSU would have to pick up part of the buyout. He’s only 44, he has a really good track record calling offense prior to being at Florida State and I think even at Florida State until he was without a QB (only red flag here). It will allow him to focus solely on the x and o’s and not all the other parts of being a head coach. Just thinking big lol. Let Fran deal with getting him the players.

I don't like the lack of screens and outside running game, but Nixon has proven himself here, both last last year. as well as this before Angeli went down. He is the least of my concerns. OL and DL get dominated too much, though our run blocking was better than our pass blocking today.

If you watch the Miami interception pick 6 yesterday, you see the problem with the OL. Watch the OL run to try to tackle the Miami player and they just don't seem to be very athletic. All of the Syracuse OL are big, but you need the OL to be athletic to get blocks for a successful run game.

I didn't subject myself to watching the game but I ran through ESPNs play-by-play and it would appear the run scheme was much better today because they ran outside. And that's what I've been saying for weeks.

I think the run blocking was better. We had some holes. Though I need to rewatch it to see which gaps they hit or whether there were more counters etc. and I don’t want to subject myself to that.

Does anyone have the breakdown of inside runs vs out side runs? I think we still ran 80% inside runs, but the backs broke a few off tackle to gain yards. Hill needs more carries, he cuts quickly to the hole, where Willis runs straight into the pile too often.

To my eye, Hill's speed, twitchiness, balance and vision seems to be a better fit with this OL and scheme.

I generally agree. The one thing I would worry about is that young RBs tend to try to bounce everything. When you are RB1 and playing against the 1st team D, that doesn't work.

He ran good but dang he couldn’t block nobody back there, it was hard to watch him whiff
Nixon was trucked at least 2x - which is better than a whiff from the QBs perspective.

Have to give Nixon credit for taking on the block knowing what was coming.
