So there is still an option to donate directly to a specific program? Then what are people complaining about exactly?

I believe you can give directly to the school's Athletic program for a specific sport. I think that money is for the specific coaches fund or to help defray the $20.5 million compensation the school pays. It isn't for NIL and can't be used for that. This discussion is about NIL.

I think people are quick to assume there is now no way to donate to a specific sports NIL fund. If I'm wrong than yeah this sucks, but I doubt that is not an option for potential donors anymore.

it makes zero sense. tell me why 100% of my nil donation cant go to where i want it too? i want to donate to gmac. not have 85% of my donation go someplace that others decide they want my money to go too. since this was put together by football people, it sounds like a scam to help football (which i also support).

It makes sense for SU from an administrative perspective. But what is easy for them should be the last thing considered here.

It also makes sense for the non revenue sports, they now have money to make them better.

It makes sense for FB. Yes, they lose 25% of their NIL but they get 75% of BBall. That should be a big net positive.

For the Fans, and especially for BBall it sucks ass.

It is almost as if the new AD did not know that SU has a large BBall fanbase and a small FB one.

BB is supposed to be an NIL guru. This seems bad for individual donations, even the big fish.

I can see it working for corporate donations, but why not just have separate systems in that case.

If I win the lotto and want to buy a National Championship in Women's Hockey, I should be able to do so.

I saw nothing in his track record that indicated he was a guru at NIL. There was some boilerplate stuff on NIL at toledo but the actual numbers were tiny. If we wanted an NIL expert, we didn't hire the right AD IMO.

I think the idea was that he set up the NIL stuff at Toledo, but there is a difference between setting ti up and being an NIL expert.

Actually I take that back about FB, it could be worse for them as well. If BBall donations significantly drop, it won't cover the lost 25%.


Other schools are state schools, in which case a one stop shop makes more sense. Alumni are willing to give money in order to see the entire AD do well. But SU is a small private school where most of the fans have nothing to do with the school. Those fans do not care about the entire AD. It almost feels like this was a cookie cutter solution that worked elsewhere without actually knowing our audience.

That is great in theory but that isn't what the bulk of donors want. We aren't a state school. There are people who do not care about FB, let alone non rev sports.

If you don't think they're setting up most or all of this to go to football/MBB and giving those sports the payrolls they need, you're all crazy.

The whole point of these things is to keep money flexible. If Fran needs the next McCord, they go to the pot. If basketball has a late portal chance at someone big, they go to the pot... The fundraising is to replenish the pot.

Now I get that a rising tide lifts all boats, but what if I only care about the SS Gait & Thorpe.

Then skip NIL and donate to the coach's fund.

Sounds like they’re being lazy to be honest. This is all haphazard as usual. Really frustrating. They clearly rushed this out. There’s no website. Just a fundraising campaign. Amateur hour.

The pot is the collective fundraising dollars... I'm having a very hard time figuring out the complaining and its quite frustrating. I follow college sports very closely. This is the same model most big schools use. Look up the major brands of college athletics and you'll see this... Yet here, our fans complain. It's mind boggling to me.
