One Orange Alliance

Right so the Mens Soccer team has been begging for a new scoreboard (yes they use an old school scoreboard that MOST high school dont even use anymore) and the school wont give them the $$$ for it. Thats right, the team that won our most recent National Championship cant even get a slight upgrade on the scoreboard and I am supposed to trust that if I donate my money to help out Syracuse Mens soccer that the money I am giving them is going to get to them? If I can not specifically say it needs to go there, it is not going to go there and therefore I am not going to donate my money.

So actually, its not this type of thinking that is detrimental to growth, its again, the University kicking itself in the nuts and being detrimental to their own growth by doing something half way and again taking the fans for granted.
I'm pretty sure any major donor can call them up and be like "I'd like to earmark my donation to the Men's Soccer scoreboard".

This collective seems specifically for NIL, no?

You’re missing the point.

The point is, when the university has everyone putting their money together in one pool they can decide where the money goes and even tho a large contingent of fans and the coach want an upgraded soccer scoreboard, they aren’t doing it.

Sooooo how can folks trust them to pool all the NIL money into one spot. Some folks might be donating because they want to help mens soccer program and build a very strong program but if you can’t designate it goes to the men’s soccer team, they aren’t going to put it there is the point, despite people wanting it to go to a specific spot. Because people can’t control where it’s going they aren’t going to donate to it.

The scoreboard is just being used as an example.

Yes it is 100% NIL

NC State and several of the others cited are clients of BluePrint Sports. If you think SANIL had objectionable administrative fees do a little digging into BPS!
I really dont think you need to outsource this anymore. It's so easy to build these systems internally now on cloud-based tools. Third parties are used to ripping schools off because they can. I could set this up in house for them easily.

I'm not saying the setup makes a ton of sense. I'm saying there are things to get upset about, that doesn't seem like one of them.

The whales in each sport will still donate how they see fit.

It seems alot of schools are using Spotfund,

Still think this was rushed out and the University really dropped the ball on this one.

Looks like it’s generally used as a way to generate money through sweepstakes etc.

Not for the main NIL collective.

I get it, the fans were clamoring for an NIL Collective for all sports. If this is what you came up with in a pinch to collect some money, cool. But say that this is a temporary situation until the full all sports NIL collective is launched.

I feel that’s what this is, but again the university feels it needs to keep it some kind of secret.

Hopefully one day the university will realize open communication to the fan base is always best.

Gonna hope this was done quickly to get something out there and there is going to be major tweaks. There needs to be a general NIL fund fans can donate to and then an individual team bucket. This isn't rocket science, people want to be able to donate NIL directly to specific teams, full stop. Again though you can change the AD, the chancellor etc but man this University continues to make decisions that are just mind-boggling.

But this wasn't done quickly lol. If they rolled this out a week after Blair was hired, or a week after Gmac, I'd buy the "rolled it out quick, better things to come" thing.

The whole reason I was able to jump on the Gerry HC wagon was because I thought nostalgia was gonna fund a roster to set him up for success. Now we don't get that chance. A few weeks after that same nostalgia broke records on giving day (where many folks mistakenly donated thinking it was going to NIL). Up to $861.

I think they intend it to be donations to an all university general fund only. Whether it will stay that way will depend on the pushback to that they get. IF they listen.

I think they intend to have this serve to have whales contribute to the general fund only, not to specific sports. We'll see how long that lasts.

Right and they could have called it a NIL one team kick off and spun into something way better.

So I went to the donation page and beware. There is a 15% tip to the Spotfund website that if you do not pay attention gets added to your total. You can reduce it to $1 but it defaults to 15% and not a dime of that goes to the collective.
Wow that’s sad smh

That is embarassing. And very telling.

They also shouldn't be using that site and having the tip feature. It's not even an actual charitable campaign. That's why you leverage those sites. The model should understand there are credit card fees with a subscription campaign. So much about this is amateur hour.
It’s a disaster at every level

The negative reaction to this was the first topic discussed on the Orange Nation radio/steaming show with Steve & Pauli today (available on YouTube). Steve started out that there are a lot of unhappy people that donors can't designate a sport. He said he brought that up when he interviewed ADBB on Monday. Blair said then and since that this is just phase 1. Steve didn't say with certainty that donating to a specific sport will ultimately be part of it but he kept saying that Blair in his later statements and tweets today "alluded" to it. We shall see. At least the media recognizes the pushback and that many of us are not happy.
