One Orange Alliance

Well said.

College sports is now pro sports, except they want their fans to subsidize expenses directly. It's lunacy.

I'm a Patriots fan. I buy tickets, pay for parking and concessions, buy merchandise, subscribe to a litany of video services... and Bob Kraft makes money from of all of that.

Kraft Sports Group sells sponsorships for the Pats to area businesses and licenses the Patriots mark for commercial purposes. Bob Kraft makes money from that.

Kraft owns Gillette Stadium and holds concerts and other sporting events there. Bob Kraft makes money from that.

Kraft developed Patriot Place, a mixed use facility that surrounds Gillette Stadium, where he collects rent from dozens of retailers, restaurants and hotels. Bob Kraft makes money from that.

Kraft uses that revenue to pay his front office staff, coaches and players.

What Bob Kraft doesn't do is email me and ask for a $10,000 donation so he can pay Drake Maye.

Yet that's precisely what colleges expect of fans now. It's preposterous.

Amen!

I'll also add that the majority of the population (not to mention in a town that's generally blue collar such as Syracuse) realize just how precisely "preposterous" it indeed is. They simply can see the utter foolishness of directly donating/contributing to these already extremely fortunate and privileged 'young adults' and won't/refuse to be a part of that. The six figures (and them some in instances) in addition to the free ride, etc. and all that that already provides, is just flat out lunacy.

Can’t they just partner with Wegmans and offer a round up to the nearest dollar at checkout and that amount goes to NIL? A ton of businesses are doing this for the tax write off, not sure NIL qualifies but can you imagine the amount they could raise this way?

I can 100% confirm that Wegmans would never do anything like that for something as ridiculous as NIL donations.

I won’t lie, I hate the “round up” stuff. NIL is different but I’ve always thought if you as a corporation really think the cause is so great, YOU should round up my purchase and donate it lol

"Supporters will also get a variety of benefits for their contribution, including exclusive access to Syracuse Athletics and One Orange Alliance events and more!"

Ok...so what are these benefits? What does "and more!" mean?? If I'm donating, I want to know what I'm getting. I do also thing this is a misstep to not allow contribution to a specific sport. I don't have a ton of money floating around to be donated, so if I donate I dont want my money going to mens soccer or womens field hockey

yup, preposterous is the right word. Schools have to change how they budget and allocate resources based on this. Or they have to raise ticket prices and just charge fans to cover it directly. But the reason that doesnt work is because the budget requires subsidizing lots of other sports and athletes. It's not a true market environment. People are just forgetting this entire part of the equation.

Existing marketing deals have to get redirected to cover athlete costs and you build in more deals because for the value and rights associated with player appearances, jersey rights, etc. Most donors and schools should boycott this entire fiasco if I'm being honest. The sooner we get to the point where everyone says, enough, the better off the entire sport will be. And with that, you can go back to a true academic approach for all the non basketball and football sports. They're either employees or they're not. Half and half ends up with a half baked approach and that's the situation we remain in.

A lot of misinformation out there and misinformed people about GMAC acquisitions and the current state of the program. Enthusiasm should be improving not getting worse and that has indirect impacts on the ability to fundraise and move forward in a positive direction.
This new paradigm is just not sustainable
