As a result of his NFL flirtation, I have heard or read the phrase, "Syracuse coach Doug Marrone" in the national sports media more in the last few days than I've heard it in the previous 4 years of his tenure combined.
One has to assume that there are plenty of ESPN-watching HS freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, as well as JUCOs and potential BCS-level transfers who are also witnessing this sudden rise in visibility for the Marrone "brand." DM is now approaching household-name status, at least as far as the football world is concerned.
If (and I realize that it may be a big if) but if he ultimately does return to SU, he will do so with his profile and his name recognition having been significantly boosted for the better. That can only be a net positive when it comes to recruiting going forward. Maybe it opens a few more doors in Jersey and other relatively close hotbed states.
Let's just hope he stays so we can accrue those benefits.
