We’re now the Pittsburgh Pirates of NCAAB
We’re now the Pittsburgh Pirates of NCAAB
By that logic, he said if nothing changes, only 10 programs overall could survive. Two hands = 10. And that’s not a provocative statement. Most ADs would agree there are several have’s and a whole lot of have nots (including many in serious debt).Since it was such a short portion of the interview, this won’t take long to transcribe. Here’s a word for word recounting of what was said:
Paulie: Is it sustainable, the current model in college sports, is it sustainable for a university like Syracuse to be able to compete year in and year out with the current model?
Wildhack: I’m not sure it’s sustainable for more than a handful of schools. You know, maybe two hands, but that’s it. It’s frustrating guys, and I’ll tell you, that was one of the factors in my decision because I don’t see any solutions in the next 6-12 months. You kind of beat your head against the wall every day, and you’re trying to figure out how do you navigate this world. If we had systems in place where it created a degree of competitive equity…the bigger brands are always gonna have an advantage. It’s like the NFL, it’s like the NBA, it’s like MLB, your bigger brands have an inherent advantage. But if you create some degree of competitive equity, that you have hard and fast rules that if you don’t follow those rules there are significant consequences. If you had a system like that, as popular as college sports is today, I believe it would be even more popular and more valuable.
I don’t think he can make a more clear statement than that without literally declaring the program dead. He is telling you very straightforwardly that we cannot sustainably compete year in and year out under the current model. Anyone who claims otherwise is the one spinning, and now posters have a direct transcript so they can judge themselves.
So as 0307 said you are inferring WH is saying SU is dead which is not a reasonable inference to make. If only 5-10 teams can keep up it means that it won’t survive unless change takes place which he and more than a few others have outlined in various interviews you are just arguing with blinders to try and demand people deem your take is accurate. Haven’t seen someone make such an ass of themselves on the board in a while so appreciate the entertainment at least.
I love how I get told to settle down for saying I have contempt for the idea that board insiders have some objective knowledge which has translated to real life, yet people are just allowed to openly insult me. Wildhack said exactly what I’ve been saying, which is that we have been rendered structurally incapable of competing in the current NIL system. That’s just true. Can there be a new system? Definitely. Will there be? If Wildhack is underestimating, probably not. If he is accurate, there will be.
My guess is that if 25-30 teams can make this thing work they’ll proceed regardless of what the rest of us do. Under this current system we are unable to compete at the top level, and Wildhack doesn’t see a solution to that in the near future.
1. Video evidence of Wildhack quoting your quote of what he said if you please.I love how I get told to settle down for saying I have contempt for the idea that board insiders have some objective knowledge which has translated to real life, yet people are just allowed to openly insult me. We've been here before. Seems to be an issue lately. Having season tickets for years is not the same as someone who goes to practices because they do donate a lot and they get inside information. I wonder how much this poster contributes to help us or does anything else. An example of anything else would be for someone like me who is a huge supporter but can not be monetarily, but recently had a zoom call with an athletic director about how to donate specifically to women's basketball to help retain players, and then posted that correct information to help others who could donate, do so properly. Some of us do the actual work and not only the criticizing.I am in a real quandary. I don't know whether to ban you from this thread or let you stick around so everyone can see how ridiculous you sound.
Super weird hill to die on when people WHO ARE FRIENDS WITH THE COACHING STAFF are telling you what you refuse to believe...

didn’t want to over pay some guys so they went and overpaid everyone but Kyle.2 things I know for a fact as well - Red said no to a few guys Kline wanted to spend a lot on and they didn’t spend their entire NiL budget this season because “they didn’t want to overpay certain guys”
Not entirely wrong, 20+ point losses could hit us pretty hardYou are comparing our end of season NET last year to our current NET as we are positioned to lose at LEAST 4 of our final 6 games. By the time the season ends the NET ranking will be closer to 90. Which is exactly what I have said: Marginal improvement.
I blame the defense. It’s atrocious compared to early season. It’s like they’re purposefully taught to be worse defendersA good coach would have this team on the bubble or in the tourney
It’s junk offense Autry runs
Plus seems like everyone has the green light to take bad shots
count on 2 hands means 10 or less. that's it for the survivors. everybody else, like SU, are dead and incapable of competing and surviving. that is what john is saying using your logic.I love how I get told to settle down for saying I have contempt for the idea that board insiders have some objective knowledge which has translated to real life, yet people are just allowed to openly insult me. It was Reds call to say no. Alex brings options to Red. Red gets final call. Alex wanted to go all outdidn’t want to over pay some guys so they went and overpaid everyone but Kyle.
Hard to believe this guy could be so dense that he thought he shouldn’t have gone all out in a make or break year.
