One thing about this board...

...We are quick to anoint, and quick to bury. Trevor Cooney has gone from a D3 player to an NBA early entry candidate in 6 weeks.

ONE person thought he was a D3 player. I thought he would be a nice role player this year and have Rautins-like junior and senior years. So happy to be dead wrong about that.

Only a vocal minority seems to have expected him to never contribute in his career here.

The problem with "the board" is that some people open their keyboard before their brains kick in. Anyone who saw Trevor in his HS tapes or work his ass off in the Melo Center would know he was FAR FROM a D3 player. At the same time, he is not anywhere close to an NBA player...yet. He could be there in a couple of years without question. He has all the skills and the work ethic to boot.

My recommendation would be to stop nitpicking Trevor's game and simply applaud what he has become...and enjoy it. He's a great kid who is only going to get better on the court.

please don't compare FDR, and JFK with Marsh01
I mean, they are great and all, but they are not Marsh01..
I'm sorry. I was trying to make a point. Obviously, there is Marsh01 and everyone else is at least two notches below.

I'm ecstatic that Cooney is shooting at 50% from 3 and is a terror on the defense. But c'mon, people were rightfully disappointed in seeing a kid who was a top-60 recruit with the "pure shooter" label and a redshirt freshman barely hit the rim in his season of games. There was no reason for personal attacks on the kid, but being disappointed in what he was providing was certainly appropriate given the results. I've seen plenty of high school players absolutely crater at the D1 level, but I'm not sure I've seen many do a complete 180 like this. This isn't even just improvement, he's gone from airballs to being one of the very best 3-point shooters in the country (and considering his comp is mostly from mid-majors, he's probably the best shooter right now).

I'm thrilled it clicked for him.

It's been a reality for years. IT's why don't post much anymore.

What you said is perfectly understandable. But a handful of folks didn't look at it like you did. Those people don't want those posts pulled back up. It's one thing to say what you did and another to make over the top personal attacks...pull his scholie, he's D3, he doesn't belong here, he's garbage, etc.

Guilty here. I am implementing a no post policy for myself during games and will merely lurk in the chatroom from now on. I get too emotional during the games.

Yeah, I actually self-banned myself from the chat room Saturday...right after I did so, we went on our huge run, so hooray for me giving us some good mojo.:p

I essentially told myself that at the beginning of the year. I try not to touch the internet if we're losing :D.

Ok please remind me was i the one who said he was a D3 player? I honestly don't think I did, but can't remember for sure? I know I said he would be recruited over...I said before, but i'll say it again I was dead wrong, and couldn't be more happy about it.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I certainly didn't see this coming. I've been thinking about it, and I think what it comes down to is some guys just can't play 10 minutes a game and be effective, particularly shooters. They need to know that they are staying in the game regardless of whether their first 2 J's go in.

Now...I don't think Trevor is going to shoot 50% from 3 all year. And I worry about him as our 2nd ball handler. And he averages 1.3 made 2 point FG's a game - he is a one dimensional offensive player. And I think the NBA talk is laughable (no offense to anyone in particular). But, it is fun to watch him right now - love having a lights out shooter.

I only post after wins, never after losses. Learned my lesson a long time ago.

I love the board and the varied opinions, but the one thing that does bother me is the tendency of some to make absolute not to be doubted statements..things like so and so is the best whatever in SU basketball history. Or..we have the best front court in the country. On and on.

A little qualifier like "I think" or "It's possible" would probably raise others perception of the poster a few IQ points.

Making an absolute no wiggle room declaration is a sure way to intellectually back yourself into a corner.

That reminds me, Igor and Blue curtain seem to be M.I.A. from the board, ...not that theres anything wrong with that
