Orangeyes ...Sad news

Rest in piece, Dan. Through the kind act of honoring another individual you forever left your mark on this world. Every time myself and others look at that statue we will think Ernie Davis and yourself; and what each of you represent.

Out of curiosity I looked up the date Ernie Davis died -- May 18, 1963.
That was 18,683 days ago.
Or, more symbolically -- 448,392 hours ago.

Agreed. Jake mentioned this on the first page, but what a PRIVILEGE it has been for all of these years to come to one site, where all of those articles were already aggregated. It is very time consuming to not only search for all that stuff, but make the post to link all of that stuff. And Dan did it just about every day for years. Voluntarily.
I always thought that OE never slept. I swear he would post things 24 hours a day. He was a true Syracuse fanatic.

Very sad passing. This place will never be the same without OE. Glad to see his passing is getting the classy media coverage that he deserves. Orangeyes optimized what being an SU fan means. As best as there ever was. RIP OE.

An orange sunset in memory of Dan.

Very sad news. Like many, I never met Orangeyes, but he actually was the one mod to ever PM me(and not about something bad either). We were talking about things happening for a purpose(synchronicity). The man was a thinker as well as a fan, and you can tell he had a good heart.

And about being a fan, possibly the greatest SU fan of all time. The amount of work he put into gathering articles every day for us to read was remarkable. I hope we can do something to honor his memory, and I also hope SU does the same. With all the great fans among various fanbases, I am not sure how many could equal Orangeyes' passion for his team.

Though I never had the privilege of meeting Dan, I feel like he, by way of his daily article compilations, has greeted me with a friendly "good morning" each & every day since I first discovered this board. To echo Tomcat's sentiments, "irreplaceable" seems to be the most fitting adjective. The 'Cuse flag on the front of my house is flying at half-staff this weekend.

RIP, OE

I never had the honor of meeting Dan, but did have the great pleasure of reading his links posts over the many years that I have been coming to this forum. He was easily the most likable poster in this community, and that says a lot because there are a lot of good people here.

Despite never having met him face to face I still feel like I have suffered a great personal loss today. It can't be said enough what a huge impact he had on people he didn't even know or that never had the honor to meet him. His contributions here, and I am sure outside of this forum, touched many, many people. For that his family should be proud!

Condolences to his family, to all those here who knew him well, and really, to his whole extended Orange family. There is simply no way to even begin to replace what Dan / Orangeyes contributed to the Orange community.

Godspeed.

I'm glad to have been able to meet and discuss SU sports with Dan, he was a great person and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. It's a very sad day.

Dan was a kind generous man, and his wife Dianne is a very sweet woman. You are in our hearts and in our thoughts. I first met Dan when he invited himself to come over to my place for a visit by IM on this site. We hung out for probably 2 or 3 hours talking SU sports. We saw Dan and Dianne at Chevy Court at the Fair a few years ago, when Jordan got to sign a song on the Jumbo screens before one of the free concerts. Dan was always very kind and supportive of her talents. I would see him at basketball games, of course, and like everyone says, he always had introductions to the coolest people and celebrities who were at the games, he always had fun stories and memories to share. A wonderful guy who will be missed by many. All the best to his many friends and family.

Ah, well.

Jake texted me about Dan yesterday while we were traveling and I was heartbroken to receive the news.

I remember exchanging emails on a nearly daily basis with Dan back in the board's earlier days and thinking that no one could possibly be that cheerful in real life. Very few people are so relentlessly optimistic and enthusiastic about whatever is in front of them at a given moment - it's the sort of stuff that gets statues built.

My best to his family and my best to you folks who have lost the presence of a truly remarkable soul. God bless him.

I haven't been on the board a whole lot this summer. What depressing news to see. I never knew or met Dan, but we all seem to be family thru this site, and he definitely seemed like the father to us all. Now, he is with his Father in heaven. I'm sure many of you have many great memories and stories about OE. These will never die.

RIP Dan. Never met him but can honestly say he made me a bigger and better fan. His links every single day brought me closer to the team, the players, the fans, the coaches, the players families, the former players, etc. I'm truly greatful for that. He will be missed.
