Oregon Hoops is broke

No, it's not known as a published fact... But ITK's posted here that Donnie's camp was not happy after the JAB round of interviews that essentially threw him under the bus publicly.

If you don't want to believe that, that's your prerogative, but it certainly sounds plausible based on what was said.
Donnie portables because he was chasing money and that is the #1, #2 and #3 reason. We were not going to pay him the crazy numbers is he is peeling after seeing his pros and cons over two seasons. Super talented player but soft, poor motor and plays small. Totally not what we need and what we would prioritize big bucks on. Jimmy said he was a disappointment and he was. Maybe he was mad hearing it but that is not the reason. He entered the portal. Everyone loves blaming Jimmy

Is it really about how much money the Oregon AD is making? Every school is allotted the same revenue share money. It sounds to me like Oregon just doesn't have donors that care about basketball. Without them, you could be the richest school in the country and it wouldn't matter. I guess Phil prioritizes football.

I don't interpret this as being broke, I interpret this as player's were re-evaluated as to their value and some were told they didn't have the NIL value that they were initially evaluated at. That's how NIL should work. If their name/image/likeness has no to very little value in the marketplace, then they shouldn't receive NIL.

Nike really hurt themselves when they pulled out of retail stores in favor of direct sales out of their own stores/online platform. That opened up shelf space and allowed brands like On and Hoka to take off.
I didn't realize they pulled out of retail stores. The last time I went to Dick's they were still there, but it was all the super high end stuff. I've seen their normal priced stuff at "discount" places like rackroom, but that was a couple years ago.

In addition, “football money” can only get you better facilities and coaches. The things that used to matter and give you a leg up. Texas and Ohio state as entities cant spend any more on basketball players than Wake forest or Tulsa.

Oregon is a real geographic outlier in the Big 10. Washington is 290 miles away and UCLA and USC are ~900 miles away. The next nearest school is 1600 miles away, Nebraska. Why would any kid, all things being equal, want to play basketball at Oregon and submit to that travel? In 2024/2025, Oregon basketball pre-NCAA Tournament traveled 26,700 miles which is an NCAA record for travel. The previous year, in the Pac 12, they traveled 7.327 miles.

And, they have lost virtually all of their rivals.
