OT any bourbon or whiskey drinkers?

Thoroughly enjoying Louisville so far. Been here now for 2 days. Yesterday we walked the bourbon row downtown and went to Old Foreseter and Angel Envy. All kinds of neat restaurants and bars in the area. And the Yum center is smack dab in the middle of it all.

Went to Buffalo Trace today for a tour. This is a must do. Very cool tour and you see some of the amazing processes they use to make bourbon. Saw the room where Blantons is bottled, all by hand, but we couldn’t buy any!!! Sad, sad, sad. They have a bourbon of the day in the gift shop and Blantons was out yesterday. Booo. EH Taylor was the specialty on the shelves today.. Picked up two bottles. After we got back from the tour, we went back to the gift shop and EH was sold out. So, they brought out Weller Special Reserve. Bonus! Got 2 of those as well. You are limited to one bottle per person of the daily special.

Saturday we go to Heaven Hill for a tour there. Report to follow

My friend if you picked up some Weller Reserve you are living right. Every once in a while the Total Wine I go to in Dallas has it and it sells out in minutes. The EH Taylor small batch is also to die for.
Enjoy ! If you're staying downtown hit up Feast Barbecue in the 900 block of East Market. Get the pork cakes, fried pickles and pulled pork. You can thank me later.

I have a tour here on Saturday. Are you familiar with any of their stuff?

I've heard great things about the distillery (and town), and had several of their bourbons

Everything I've tried has been good. It's pretty well stocked at the ABC stores where I live. They are a new distillery, so many of their original releases were blends with other bourbons. The origin series is 100% Bardstown and smooth.

The collaborations are very creative and interesting. I've only tasted them at friends places because they can get rather pricey ($125-150/bottle). However, likely a very cool experience to try them out as part of a tasting

I tried some of the Fusion Series #7 that my buddy had. Not bad but sipped a bit hot and had a lot of different flavors going on. I am much more of a Heaven Hill and Buffalo Trace affeciando. Enjoy.

Doing Heaven Hill on the same day as Bardstown

This sounds even cooler than I pictured the bourbon trail trip in my head. Hope I get to do it one day. Enjoy!

That’s crazy - I’ve had no luck in finding Weller or Blanton’s in Buffalo area stores, but Heaven Hill BiB I’ve had no issue finding

You cannot find Heaven Hill BiB in the DFW metroplex. You have to be Johnnie on the spot if they put out Weller or Blanton's. I can find all of the Evan Williams, Larceny and Henry McKenna I want. Go figure. EW BIB is the greatest deal of all time.

I feel like I've seen Blanton's at Caputi's on Sheridan once or twice but that was a while ago.

Well, looks like we won’t be able to finish paying for my son’s college, but at least my whisky collection is complete.

Macallan is by far my favorite brand. Was up at the casino Saturday night and looked at a 30 year, they wanted $400 a pour. Nope, I got a $40 pour of Glenmorangie 18 instead. I can get that 30 year cheaper in Vegas this weekend.

Mine too.

Blanton single barrel available this Saturday at Exit 9 Wine and Liquor in Clifton Park. Details on their Facebook page. Get there real early if interested.

Tell me how you drink whiskey/bourbon. It must be an aquired taste . Tastes like medicine to me.
Typically in a glass, sometimes with one hand, the other times with two.

Seriously, started when I was a consultant and we would all gather in the Marriott courtesy room and one guy would bring a bottle of whiskey. I had always been a clear booze guy but being the follower I am recognized that I needed to evolve. Started out mixing with ginger ale and gradually cut the ginger ale (sorry tomcat). Eventually got to a little ice and the booze. Still don’t go for neat, or peaty scotch though.

Definitely an acquired taste. Helps to be old with aged taste buds. Like CuseFan said, you might like it mixed. Try 7-up, ginger ale, or soda water.

Always remember that mixing whiskey usually ruins two perfectly fine drinks.
