I didn't see it live but I saw the clip and I couldn't decide whether to laugh or shake my head in disgust. Here it is in case you're dying to see two grown men crying over punt returns

So, from a simply humorous angle, this is the most pointless interview of all time and it cracked me up. They are laughing hysterically even though I'm not sure anyone told a joke and there is not a sole who had any idea what the record even was for return TDs.

But, from the more depressing side of things, this is the whole reason that leagues like the NFL are running into issues with players' behaving horribly off the field -- the point is that they only care about football. These two are openly sobbing and overwrought with emotion over a completely inconsequential record achieved during a complete blowout. Seriously? For it to matter that much, they simply have to care about football more than anything else on the planet. That's a problem.

While I didn't see the interview, based on your description it seems to me you're tossing some pretty wild ideas at us.

I admit I'm not going to cry if I break the contract writing record at work, but Deion Sanders doesn't hold that record. If he did, maybe I would.

Basically, I don't see how passion in the workplace equals the problems you seem to think it does. Everyone reacts to emotional situations differently.

I think the issue is a wee bit more complex than that.

I'm with OrangeTown. I don't really see the problem. Sanders was a childhood idol of Hester, who has made his trade in the NFL as a kick returner. Late in his career he broke the all time record of his idol, in the category that probably meant the most to him. I see the humor in it, as it seems inconsequential to the outsider. But I don't begrudge him for it, any more than I would any other working shmoe who labored long and hard his entire career to match and eventually surpass a goal of theirs.

I thought it was great. I saw it live. Probably a nice moment for the NFL as well during the lowest point ever in terms of their 'image.' As pointed out by leftytg, Sanders was a mentor and idol for Hester. Hester had a tough upbringing and transformed himself into a hell of a player and person. I was down with it.
