Wow, love that story. I never knew that. It's funny to think how people thought women couldn't run a marathon. How foolish.

she used to run in Archbold during our track team practices

I was on the track team at SU my Senior year and I ran with Katherine Switzer a few times early in the season. Long distance for me, short for her. In the picture is #390 who was her boyfriend at the time and he knocked Jock Semple to the ground allowed Switzer to finish the race.

He looks like a pretty strong dude. Good for both of them. It seems like such a simple thing now, but someone had to break that barrier.

Great story, remember it well. I was a kid (teenager) and the controversy was huge. "Women wanting to be men" was the theme. Uggh :bang:
