I took a suggestion from a post on this board and downloaded Malwarebytes. It blocked a malicious outgoing msg that Spybot did not find, for which I am grateful. Later on my mouse froze and when I ran a Malwarebyte scan it found a bug in Windows Explorer. When removed everything went back to normal. My question is, how did I get a bug on Windows Explorer when I never use it? I use Chrome. I have a PC.

Windows Explorer is always used by your system.
I think you are confusing it with Internet Explorer. You are using Chrome over Internet Explorer, not Windows Explorer.
You always need Windows Explorer and should never try to remove it (but don't worry, pretty sure you can't).
:)

My bad. How does junk get on Internet Explorer when I never use it? Several months ago my email got messed up. A tech traced it to an incompatibility with the latest version of Explorer. When I returned to an earlier version everything worked fine. How does Explorer become a factor when I never use it?

Explorer and Internet Explorer are completely different.
But if Internet Explorer isn't used but is a default browser or used with other applications, like an Email client, it could happen.
