OT: Good news, Ray Rice - you're about to be bumped off the front page

He disciplined his kid. Really he didn't punch him in the face.

My fantasy opponent this week has Adrian as his feature back.

Jim, just curious - have you seen the photos that have surfaced of what he did to his kid?

There's a reason the Vikings have deactivated him. There's disciplining your child, and then there's whipping him with a tree branch until you give him gashes on his legs.

Greg hardy Chock slammed his girl friend and was convicted of it. But he is playing this weekend. What a joke.

I have not my friend. I'm sure if I did my opinion would change.

He disciplined his child so well that multiple doctors labeled it child abuse.

I'm all for smacking a kid when they deserve it, but this is one of the most physically fit and physically gifted man taking his rage out on a small child.

AP he's a scumbag and the more I hear about him the scummier I think he is.

Not to defend the guy too much, but as you pointed out he's one of the most physically fit guys in the world, is it so hard to believe that even if he didn't swing with all his might (which many parents do when spanking/corporal punishment styles) he would leave marks like he did?

Not saying what he did is right or wrong for that matter, but I can easily see a guy with his strength hitting his kid in an attempt at discipline and leaving marks like that. Then again I can also see a guy with that amount of testosterone and built up insanity (let's be honest to make it in the pros you have to be some level of nuts) that he could snap and lash out at someone near him for almost no reason.

If he beat a four year old to the point he was bleeding that is child abuse in my eyes and he should be put in jail. It sucks because I have always liked AP. I always saw him as one of the good guys. I just hope the child in this case is safe. I also wish that Ap will always be involved in his life and be a positive role model for him.

Based on this pattern, looking at my fantasy roster, someone watch out for Matt Forte.

I disagree. This isn't Tom Hanks in BIG. This isn't his first time being in this body. He's been this strong since he was a sophomore in college and in a grown man's body for more than a decade. MAYBE, I could see your point if it was one mark and he stopped, but the report I heard was that this kid was left with contusions and lacerations on his arms, legs, and buttocks. In the case you point out, you would think that if you break the skin once and were a decent human being you'd think "oh man, I screwed up" and not hit the kid again. From what I have read though, that's not what happened.

The other point is the kid was just 4 years old... 4 year olds are not rational beings. You have to discipline kids but drawing blood on a 4 year old is disgusting and abusive.
I concur!

I love all the high indignation from the sports media the last week about Goodell. The Bill Simmons and Peter Kings of the world have been getting rich off these guys for years.

And the band played on in Bristol...

Those pictures are from when he met with the Drs. one whole week after the abuse occurred.
And his back, butt, and hands aren't pictured which were also hit. I assume his hands were hit as he tried to shield himself.

I've never heard of a switch until today.

Public reaction has been different than rice scenario- many on social media view this as discipline. Many are stating how they used to be hit like this and they learned respect.

While I agree kids need disciplining and parenting to become useful members of society, it's tricky when physical contact is involved.

Not sure if they've seen the pics. As the rice video proved, once you see it, opinions change.

At some point discipline becomes abuse.

This. Hitting a 4-year old child in the testicles is not discipline; it's abuse. And there are no accidents in that instance. A parent is supposed to know to better. I can understand spanking even if I don't like it. This was something else.

And the statement from the 4 year old -- "there are a lot of belts in Daddy's closet" -- is chilling.

And down right criminal!
